As we continue to grow, we are recruiting a number of Heat Exchanger Service Technicians to join our facility in Peterlee.
About the Role
This is a hands-on role focused on the inspection, maintenance, repair and refurbishment of a wide variety of heat exchangers used within marine, industrial and power generation applications.
Working as part of our service team, you will be responsible for stripping, inspecting, cleaning, repairing, rebuilding and pressure testing customer equipment to ensure it is returned to service in accordance with Vestas Aircoil's quality and performance standards.
This position is ideally suited to someone with previous heat exchanger service experience or a qualified mechanical fitter looking to utilise their skills in a specialist engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Strip and dismantle customer heat exchangers for inspection and assessment.
- Clean and prepare components using approved methods and equipment.
- Inspect components for wear, corrosion, damage and other defects.
- Diagnose faults and determine appropriate repair solutions.
- Repair or replace defective components in accordance with engineering specifications.
- Rebuild and reassemble heat exchanger units.
- Carry out hydrostatic, pneumatic and leak testing activities.
- Complete service reports, inspection records and quality documentation.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and to the required quality standards.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the workshop.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
Who We're Looking For
We are seeking individuals with strong mechanical aptitude and experience in equipment servicing, overhaul or repair.
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
Option 1
- Minimum of 3 years' experience servicing, repairing or refurbishing heat exchangers.
Option 2
- Time-served Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Technician or similar engineering trade, supported by:
- NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or Maintenance, or
- City & Guilds Mechanical Engineering qualification, or equivalent recognised apprenticeship qualification.
Essential Requirements
- Strong mechanical fitting and assembly skills.
- Ability to safely dismantle and rebuild complex mechanical equipment.
- Experience using hand and power tools.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and work instructions.
- Good problem-solving and fault-finding abilities.
- High attention to detail and quality.
- Strong commitment to health and safety.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Experience
Experience in one or more of the following would be advantageous:
- Heat exchanger servicing and refurbishment.
- Marine engineering equipment.
- HVAC and cooling systems.
- Pressure testing.
- Brazing and fabrication.
- Pumps, compressors or rotating equipment.
- Engineering workshop environments.
