- This role will work core hours of Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 16:30.Please note that there will also be a requirement to participate in a rota to provide occasional evening and weekend cover to support operational requirements.
The Role
Are you a skilled Mechanical Technician who takes pride in solving problems, maintaining high standards, and keeping essential building services operating at their best? We're looking for a proactive and hands-on Mechanical Service Technician to join our Facilities Management team, playing a vital role in maintaining the systems that support thousands of students, staff and visitors every day. This is more than a maintenance role. From servicing HVAC equipment and responding to reactive repairs, to supporting apprentices and helping deliver a safe, compliant and efficient campus environment, you'll be at the heart of ensuring our facilities perform reliably and effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- To carry out Preventative and Reactive maintenance including servicing a range of HVAC equipment such as:
- Fan Coil Units (FCUs)
- Chilled Beams (CB)
- Heat Recovery Units & Air Handling Units (AHUs).
- Reactive maintenance on failures of heating and cooling issues, often working at height to carry out isolation and repairs of leaks to small bore heating and cooling pipes, both press fit and compression joint.
- To carry out service checks, service, and replacement of thermostatic mixing valves.
- To act as Systems Specialist on the College’s Mechanical systems.

Qualifications
- NVQ Diploma in Engineering Maintenance.
- NVQ Extended Diploma in Engineering Maintenance.
- An Ordinary National Certificate (ONC) in Engineering.
- Level 3 (NVQ) Diploma in Electro-technical Services (Electrical Maintenance).
- Level 3 (NVQ) Diploma in Installing Electro technical Systems & Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment).
Experience
- Experience of PPM & reactive maintenance on DHWS & DCWS and HVAC systems in a facilities management environment.
- Must be able to demonstrate significant in-depth experience at working as a maintenance technician in commercial/industrial sites.
- Carrying out works off mobile elevated working platforms (MEWPs).
- Produce and follow safe working procedures including risk assessment and COSHH.
Knowledge & Skills
- To have knowledge, ability and experience in carrying out maintenance tasks on commercial DHWS & DCWS systems including the servicing, repair and replacement of thermostatic mixing valves.
- To have knowledge and experience of PPM, reactive maintenance on water quality, and HVAC systems in a facilities management environment.
- Experience of working with renewable energy such as solar thermal and air source heat pumps.
- Highly focused and self-motivated, capable of managing multiple workloads and priorities.
