As an organisation, there is little we don’t do and plenty to get involved in. Our Group Support roles are vital in making sure we can help over 11,000 people deliver essential infrastructure seamlessly across water, energy, transport and telecom.

What will you be doing?

As a Category Manager, you’ll lead the development and delivery of category strategies that drive value, innovation and continuous improvement across the business. You'll manage a significant spend portfolio and work closely with stakeholders to deliver effective sourcing solutions, optimise supplier performance and ensure value for money.

You’ll be responsible for overseeing end-to-end category management activities, including strategic sourcing, contract negotiations, supplier relationship management and governance. Using market intelligence and data insights, you'll identify opportunities, mitigate risks and support business objectives, while ensuring compliance with procurement policies and ESG commitments.

Working collaboratively across the organisation, you’ll build strong stakeholder and supplier relationships, provide expert category insight, and support the delivery of M Group long-term procurement strategy. You'll also play a key role in developing procurement capability by mentoring junior team members and sharing best practice.

This role can be conducted remotely, with travel to Stevenage required 2-4 times a month with additional travel to meet stakeholders and suppliers as required

What you’ll bring

5-7 years’ experience in procurement
Proven track record of developing and implementing successful category strategies & sourcing practices
Experience operating within a large or multi-business organisation preferred
Ability to build relationships, influence and act as an expert across the organisation up to executive level
Strong leadership skills and prior experience of leading cross-functional or virtual teams
Strong negotiation and influencing skills, able to obtain consensus around credible, executable solutions
Confidence using data, digital tools and procurement systems to drive insight, reporting and decision-making
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Procurement qualification preferred (e.g. MCIPS)
