About the Role
Mercure Northampton Hotel is seeking an experienced, professional, and customer-focused Night Auditor / Duty Manager to join our Front Office team. This role is responsible for overseeing the hotel operation during the night, ensuring exceptional guest service, maintaining security and safety standards, and completing all night audit and financial procedures accurately.
As the senior team member on duty overnight, you will act as the main point of contact for guests and colleagues, handling operational issues and ensuring the smooth running of the hotel.
Our Front Office operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Therefore, flexibility is essential, with availability required for overnight shifts, weekends, and bank holidays.
Key Responsibilities/ Guest Service & Operations
- Deliver a warm, friendly, and professional welcome to all guests.
- Carry out efficient check-in and check-out procedures.
- Respond promptly and effectively to guest requests, complaints, and emergencies, ensuring a high level of guest satisfaction.
- Act as the Duty Manager overnight, taking responsibility for the overall operation of the hotel.
- Handle guest feedback professionally and resolve issues in accordance with company standards.
- Promote and upsell hotel rooms and services where appropriate.
Night Audit & Financial Responsibilities
- Complete the daily night audit process accurately and within required deadlines.
- Reconcile guest accounts, room revenue, and payment transactions.
- Prepare and distribute daily management reports.
- Process invoices, maintain guest accounts, and ensure all financial transactions are accurate.
- Monitor and control payment handling procedures and maintain financial integrity.
- Assist with month-end procedures and other administrative tasks as required.
Health, Safety & Security
- Ensure the safety and security of guests, staff, and the hotel throughout the night.
- Conduct regular security checks and maintain awareness of hotel activity.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, and fire alarm activations.
- Ensure compliance with hotel policies, health and safety procedures, and brand standards.
- Liaise with emergency services when necessary.
Teamwork & Leadership
- Provide support and guidance to the night team and other departments when required.
- Work closely with Housekeeping, Maintenance, Food & Beverage, and other departments to ensure a seamless guest experience.
- Communicate effectively with the Front Office Manager and day teams through detailed handovers.
- Lead by example and contribute to a positive and professional working environment.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in a hotel reception, Night Auditor, or Duty Manager role is essential.
- Experience using Opera Cloud or another Property Management System (PMS) is essential.
- Strong understanding of hotel operations and night audit procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organisational, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Excellent attention to detail and financial accuracy.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- A professional appearance and customer-focused attitude.
- Flexible and reliable approach to work.
- Availability to work overnight shifts, weekends, and bank holidays.
Desirable
- Previous supervisory or management experience within a hotel environment.
- Knowledge of Accor brand standards.
- First Aid and Fire Safety training (training can be provided).
