Head of Digital Marketing & Client Strategy

About Marketing Lawyers
Marketing Lawyers is a specialist digital marketing and consultancy agency working exclusively with law firms across England and Wales. We help firms launch, grow and scale through SEO, PPC, websites, AI search (GEO), conversion optimisation, analytics and strategic consultancy.
We're looking for an experienced digital leader who combines commercial thinking with strategic marketing expertise and enjoys helping both clients and businesses grow.
The Opportunity
Working closely with the Managing Director, you'll become the senior strategic lead across our digital services.
Rather than delivering every day-to-day campaign, you'll shape strategy, improve quality, support our specialist teams, identify commercial opportunities and help drive the continued growth of Marketing Lawyers.
This is a hands-on leadership role. Alongside shaping strategy, you'll advise clients, oversee delivery, mentor the team, review and sign off work, support new business opportunities and ensure our digital services continue to deliver exceptional results.
You'll work closely with the Managing Director, Head of Web, SEO Lead, PPC Lead and wider team, providing strategic direction while remaining involved in delivery where required.
Key ResponsibilitiesClient Strategy & Account Management
- Lead digital growth strategies for key client accounts.
- Act as the senior day-to-day marketing adviser for clients.
- Develop SEO, PPC, GEO, website and conversion strategies for both clients and Marketing Lawyers.
- Run strategic review meetings with clients.
- Aim to keep clients happy wherever possible through excellent communication and service.
- Become the senior escalation point for strategic marketing advice.
- Build long-term relationships with partners, marketing teams, directors and business owners.
- Keep task databases up to date with the team as we continue to grow.
- Track client requests and ensure work is delivered in line with agreed priorities.
- Review client hours, monitor project profitability and help allocate resources effectively.
Commercial Growth
- Identify upselling and cross-selling opportunities across existing clients.
- Support proposals, pitches and new business opportunities.
- Attend sales meetings and support new business conversations where required.
- Assist with proposals, quotations and commercial discussions.
- Help review contracts, scopes of work and client requirements where appropriate.
- Help develop new services and products.
- Analyse competitors, market trends and emerging opportunities.
- Assist with email newsletters, client updates and sign off reports.
- Support webinars, events, thought leadership and marketing activity.
Digital Strategy
- Oversee strategy across SEO, PPC, GEO, AI search, content, analytics and conversion optimisation.
- Monitor algorithm updates and emerging technologies.
- Ensure best practice and consistent quality across all client work.
- Own client relationships and help continually improve internal processes.
- Recommend improvements that increase client enquiries and return on investment.
- Roll up your sleeves and become involved in SEO and digital marketing delivery where required.
- Review technical SEO recommendations, content plans and marketing strategies before client delivery.
Quality Assurance
- Review and sign off website content before publication.
- Review and approve SEO recommendations where appropriate.
- Review and sign off social media campaigns and wider marketing activity.
- Ensure consistency and quality across all client deliverables.
- Provide guidance, mentoring and constructive feedback to the SEO, PPC, Web and Content teams.
Working with the Leadership Team
Working alongside the Managing Director, Head of Web, SEO Lead, PPC Lead and the wider team, you will:
- Provide strategic direction across SEO, PPC, websites, AI search, offline and online marketing.
- Align delivery with client objectives and commercial priorities.
- Help prioritise workloads and resources.
- Improve collaboration across the business.
- Chair planning and strategy meetings where appropriate.
- Keep clients informed and regularly check in with key accounts.
- Develop processes, quality assurance and operational efficiency.
- Mentor and support the ongoing development of our specialist teams.
- Act as the senior point of contact for marketing questions across the business.
Innovation
- Lead the development of our AI search and GEO services.
- Research and test new marketing technologies.
- Identify opportunities to automate processes using AI.
- Help keep Marketing Lawyers at the forefront of legal-sector digital marketing.
About You
You'll have:
- Significant experience in digital marketing and marketing leadership.
- Strong commercial awareness and strategic thinking.
- Excellent knowledge of SEO, PPC, websites, analytics and conversion optimisation.
- Strong hands-on SEO knowledge and confidence reviewing technical SEO, on-page SEO and content recommendations.
- Experience managing client relationships and multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams.
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
- Confidence advising senior stakeholders, professionals and business owners.
- Confidence reviewing and signing off work produced by other members of the team.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and keep projects moving.
- A data-driven approach to decision making.
- A genuine drive for communication and keeping clients happy.
- A genuine passion for innovation, continuous improvement and business growth.
Experience working with law firms or professional services businesses would be advantageous, as around 99% of our work is within the legal sector.
Success in the Role
Within your first 12 months you will:
- Become the strategic lead for our client accounts.
- Become the trusted marketing adviser for a portfolio of key clients.
- Reduce the Managing Director's involvement in day-to-day client strategy, account management and project delivery.
- Improve client retention, account growth and profitability.
- Strengthen collaboration across SEO, PPC and Web.
- Improve internal quality assurance and review processes.
- Improve our lead generation.
- Expand our AI search and GEO offering.
- Introduce new ideas that improve operational efficiency and generate additional revenue.
