Join One of the UK's Growing Surfacing Contractors
PaveCon Ltd is a specialist tarmac surfacing contractor delivering high-quality highways, commercial, industrial and residential surfacing projects throughout the UK. Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit an ambitious Trainee/Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial Team.

The Role
Reporting directly to the Group Commercial Manager, you will assist in the commercial management of multiple contracts from award through to final account. Your objective will be to maximise project profitability, maintain excellent client relationships and ensure commercial processes are managed efficiently on each project.
Key Responsibilities
- Review tender documentation and attend handover meetings with the Estimating/Sales team prior to project commencement.
- Assist in the commercial management of multiple surfacing projects.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Prepare and submit interim applications for payment in accordance with contract requirements.
- Identify, price and submit variations before additional works commence wherever possible.
- Assist in negotiating subcontract agreements and managing subcontractor accounts.
- Produce accurate monthly cost value reconciliations (CVRs) and project profitability reports.
- Monitor project costs and identify opportunities to improve commercial performance.
- Work closely with the Operations team to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and profitably.
- Chase outstanding payments and assist in maintaining positive cash flow.
- Ensure all commercial procedures and company management systems are followed.
Key Deliverables
- Timely submission of applications for payment.
- Accurate pricing and submission of variations.
- Monthly project cost reports and profitability analysis.
- Maintenance of the company's Master Period Reporting documentation.
- Attendance at Monthly Commercial Cost Meetings
- Pre-Start Meetings
- Final Account Meetings
About You
We're looking for someone who is organised, commercially aware and keen to progress their career.
Essential
- Previous experience as a Trainee or Assistant Quantity Surveyor (experience within highways, surfacing or civil engineering would be advantageous).
- Relevant Construction Qualification (Desirable).
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong numerical and analytical ability.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
- Experience within tarmac surfacing, highways or infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts desirable.
- Experience producing CVRs and managing accounts.
