Full job description

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with strong design and

analysis capabilities to join our growing team. This is a hands-on role, offering

opportunities to take ownership of projects from concept through to manufacture, while

contributing to innovation, product development, and technical leadership within the

business.

This is not a graduate role unless significant industrial experience has been achieved.

Required Knowledge & Skills (Desirable, not all essential)

Experience: ~5 years in industry with extensive understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace, or related discipline.
CAD: Proficiency with an industry-standard CAD package (SolidWorks preferred).
Industry background: Automotive, commercial vehicles, or heavy industry equipment experience desirable.
Project leadership: Proven ability to lead and deliver work packages independently.
Product development: Experience in design, validation, and release of engineered products.
Design skills: Ability to design from first principles, including hand calculations and basic analysis (mechanical, structural, or electrical systems). The correct application and understanding of GD&T.
Engineering standards: Awareness of industry regulations and ability to apply them to design work.
FEA & CFD: The ability to utilise FEA packages both inside of 3D modelling software and with the use of Ansys is highly advantageous and a basic understanding of computational fluid dynamics in Ansys is Desirable.
Other: Full UK driving licence and own vehicle.

Roles & Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will:

Lead and take ownership of work packages from concept through to manufacture, including design specifications, customer interaction, and project management.
Deliver high-quality product designs with consideration for manufacturability, safety, cost, and performance.
Conduct and support FMEA activities.
Support and mentor apprentices as part of our apprenticeship scheme.
Collaborate with the manufacturing team and support shop floor activities when required.
Drive compliance with quality, health & safety, and environmental standards.
Manage and monitor engineering change notifications and corrective action processes.
Develop and execute test and development plans.
Contribute to the development of new innovations and continuous improvement.
