Job Title: Shop Assistant (16 hours per week)

Location: Londis Convenience Store, Fitzwilliam Pontefract

Job Summary:

We are currently seeking a dedicated and customer-focused Shop Assistant to join our team at our local Londis convenience store in Fitzwilliam Pontefract. As a Shop Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the store by providing excellent customer service, maintaining the shop's appearance, stocking inventory, and handling food products. This is a position offering 16 hours per week but the ideal candidate must be able to do extra hours when required.

Responsibilities:

- Greet customers warmly and provide friendly, efficient, and personalised service.

- Process sales transactions accurately using the store's point-of-sale system.

- Assist customers in locating products and provide product information and recommendations when necessary.

- Maintain a clean and organised store environment, including shelves, displays, and checkout areas.

- Ensure that all food products are appropriately stored, rotated, and labelled according to expiration dates and health and safety regulations.

- Receive and unpack merchandise shipments, checking for accuracy and quality.

- Stock shelves and arrange displays to promote product visibility and attractiveness.

- Monitor inventory levels and promptly communicate any stock shortages or issues to the store manager.

- Maintain knowledge of current promotions, discounts, and special offers to effectively assist customers.

- Adhere to company policies and procedures, including cash handling and security guidelines.

- Collaborate with team members to achieve sales targets and contribute to a positive work environment.

- Assist with periodic store cleaning tasks, such as sweeping, mopping, and sanitising surfaces.

Qualifications and Skills:

- Previous experience in a retail or customer service role is preferred but not required.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a friendly and approachable demeanor.

- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

- Attention to detail and accuracy in cash handling and inventory management.

- Knowledge of food safety guidelines and regulations is an advantage.

- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends based on the store's operating hours.
