Full job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Full-time Band 6 Senior Respiratory Physiologist to join our friendly and dedicated team at University Hospitals Dorset, working across both Poole and Bournemouth sites.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic individual who has a genuine interest in working with adult patients with respiratory conditions.

To succeed in this role you will need;

BSc Respiratory Physiology or equivalent
Professional registration
To be motivated
To be able to work independently as well as part of a team
To be keen to learn and expand professional development
To be willing to work with patients who have complex medical disorders
To be IT literate
To have experience of working within a healthcare setting
To have experience of working at Band 5 or above in Respiratory Physiology
To have experience with supporting Junior colleagues / Students
To be flexible within your role

Interview Date: 14th September 2026

To perform a range of routine, complex diagnostic testing including appropriate interpretation when required.
Deputise in the absence of the Lead Respiratory Physiologists
Provide support and oversee work performed by more junior colleagues.
Conduct quality assurance of work performed by more junior staff members.
To triage appropriateness of Respiratory and Sleep referrals
To conduct and report Sleep diagnostics with involvement in weekly Sleep MDT
To actively contribute to interdepartmental teaching/training including mentoring/assessing students and junior staff
Be responsible for maintaining departmental stock levels and appropriate ordering

UHD are investing, developing and transforming Trust services in line with the New Hospital Programme. As part of this, some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or permanently. Recruiting Managers will be happy to answer any service-specific questions at interview.

If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.

Please note, this role requires cross site working.
