About Sorrells
Sorrells designs and manufactures high-end bespoke wine rooms, bars, cabinetry and specialist joinery for luxury residential and commercial projects. Our work is detailed, made to measure, and often forms part of complex projects where accuracy, finish and delivery dates really matter.
We are looking for an experienced bench joiner / cabinet maker to join our Rayleigh workshop and help us produce premium bespoke joinery to a consistently high standard.
The Role
This is a hands-on workshop role for someone who is comfortable working from technical drawings, cutting lists and production information, and who takes pride in accurate, well-finished work.
You will be making bespoke cabinetry, racking, doors, frames, panels, plinths, shelves and specialist joinery components for wine rooms and fitted interiors. The right person will be able to work carefully, think practically, and help keep workshop jobs moving so projects are ready for finishing, packing and installation on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacture high-quality bespoke joinery and cabinetry in the workshop.
- Work accurately from drawings, cutting lists, templates and workshop instructions.
- Assemble cabinets, frames, doors, panels, plinths, shelves and detailed joinery components.
- Prepare and work with timber, veneered boards, MDF, plywood, laminates and other sheet materials.
- Work with CNC and beam-saw prepared components where required.
- Carry out sanding, preparation, edging, fitting, adjustment and final detailing to a high standard.
- Check your own work for accuracy, finish, fit and alignment before it moves to the next stage.
- Work with the workshop manager, designers, CNC team, stores and fitters to resolve practical production issues.
- Help keep jobs moving against project deadlines, especially where joinery readiness affects installation dates.
- Maintain a tidy, safe and organised working area.
- Follow workshop health and safety procedures and use machinery responsibly.
What We Need
We are looking for someone who is already a skilled joiner or cabinet maker, not someone who needs to be trained from scratch.
You should have:
- Proven experience in bench joinery, cabinet making, furniture making or high-end bespoke interiors.
- Strong practical ability with accurate measuring, cutting, assembly and fitting.
- Good understanding of workshop drawings and production information.
- Experience working with sheet materials, hardwoods, veneers, MDF and plywood.
- Good finishing preparation skills, including sanding and attention to visible detail.
- The ability to produce clean, square, accurate work without constant supervision.
- A practical approach to solving workshop problems.
- Reliability, good timekeeping and the ability to work to agreed priorities.
- A team-focused attitude and willingness to support other workshop areas when needed.
Helpful Experience
Experience in any of the following would be an advantage:
- Bespoke cabinetry or luxury residential interiors.
- Wine rooms, bars, fitted furniture or architectural joinery.
- Working alongside CNC or beam-saw production.
- Veneering, edging, laminating or curved/detail work.
- Preparing work for spray finishing or French polishing.
- Site installation awareness, even if the main role is workshop based.
What We Are Not Looking For
This role is not suitable for someone whose experience is mainly general labouring, basic site carpentry, first fix work only, or flat-pack assembly. We need someone who can contribute immediately to detailed bespoke workshop production.
What We Offer
- Full-time, stable workshop-based role.
- Interesting bespoke projects rather than repetitive mass production.
- Opportunity to work on high-end residential and commercial interiors.
- Supportive team environment.
- Competitive pay based on proven skill and experience.
- Company pension.
- Opportunities to grow with the business.
