Altrad Babcock are currently looking to recruit a Plater to support mechanical activities across operations and asset management projects. This role requires experience in hands-on fabrication and mechanical fitting support, providing a varied opportunity within a dynamic engineering environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for bench fitting, lay up of jigs and fixtures, marking off, grinding, and inspection activities., while delivering work safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
Proven experience of working in a heavy engineering facility or mechanical site environment alongside welders and other mechanical trades is essential.
Key Deliverables:
- Safely use hand and power tools for bench fitting, marking off, and assembly tasks.
- Ability to mark off regular and irregular shapes.
- Ability to tack weld and use of cutting equipment.
- Work as part of a multi skilled team to fabricate rigs, fixtures and test specimens.
- Operate workshop equipment including band saws, pedestal drills, and guillotines.
- Use inspection equipment and tools to ensure all work meets required quality standards.
- Deliver work in line with project schedules, deadlines, and quality expectations.
- Carry out lifting operations safely, including the use of overhead cranes where required.
- Provide practical and technical support to operations and asset management teams.
- Support mechanical fitting activities on site as required.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, equipment care, and workplace organisation.
- Follow all health and safety legislation, company procedures, and operational standards.
- Stop and report any work that does not meet required company standards within the work area.
Key Requirements:
- Proven experience with bench fitting, marking off, grinding, setup and fabrication activities.
- Set up mark off of pipe specimens, flanges and bolting / tensioning equipment
- Ability to read and interpret engineering and technical drawings.
- Knowledge of relevant engineering codes, standards, legislation, and company procedures.
- Basic commercial awareness relating to engineering project work.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive and practical approach.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Competent in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and small industrial workshop machinery.
- Experience with lifting operations and overhead crane usage.
- Understanding of quality assurance processes and inspection procedures.
- Strong commitment to health, safety, and quality standards.
- Willingness to undertake site-based work when required.
