Overview
We are seeking a hands-on finance professional to take ownership of the financial management of a multi-branch distributor of welding products. You will be a senior member of the team playing a crucial role in managing financial planning and analysis, accounting and compliance. This is a standalone role, reporting directly to the Owner and Managing Director.
Your Responsibilities
- Day to day book-keeping, including recording financial transactions, preparing balance sheets, processing invoices, reconciling bank statements
- Manage purchase ledger including monthly and ad-hoc payment runs
- Manage accounts receivable reviewing customer payment performance
- Accountable for credit control and responsible for managing the escalation process
- Preparation of monthly management accounts and provide commentary for the Owner regarding performance highlights and areas of focus
- Balance sheet reconciliations and key control accounts in collaboration with our external accountant
- Responsible for PAYE, VAT and Corporation Tax
- Oversee monthly payroll of a growing team of 40 people through Sage Payroll
- Support external accountants by providing relevant accounts payable documentation and explanations and end of year information
- Make decisions based on accounting information to assist in the management and performance of the business
- Ensure compliance with UK financial regulations
- Identify cost-saving opportunities, process improvements, and financial efficiencies to enhance profitability
- Analyse and deliver data to Owner and MD
- Analyse and develop our internal systems, streamlining our processes

Our ideal Finance Officer will:
- Have a formal accounting qualification to a minimum of level 4 AAT or be qualified by experience
- Have proven experience in a senior finance role within an SME environment
- Have a strong knowledge of UK accounting standards, tax regulation and compliance. A knowledge of Exchequer software would be beneficial but not essential.
- Exhibit expertise in financial accounting and reporting principles
- Be a versatile individual with a flair for organisational and administrative skills
- Have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to deal effectively at all levels, developing and maintain positive working relationships
- Be a quick learner who can adapt to our bespoke financial management system

- A competitive salary - £47500.00 per annum for a 40 Hour Week
- 25 days holiday entitlement plus all Bank Holidays plus 1 extra day per 3 years service to a maximum of 30 days holiday

- Be responsible for checking the accuracy of own work. Effectively manage own time, workload and resources
- Be happy to work in a hands-on, varied finance role
