About us
UK Power Connections Ltd (UKPC) is a NERS-accredited Independent Connection Provider delivering LV and
HV electrical connections across housing, commercial and industrial schemes. We design and build utility
connections to DNO/IDNO adoption standards and are looking for a reliable, experienced digger driver /
groundworker to join our teams on a part-time, day-rate basis.
The role
You’ll operate excavators and support groundworks on live connection sites — trenching for cable and
ducting, excavating substation and joint-bay bases, backfilling, reinstatement and general site duties. Work is
varied and hands-on, so as well as sitting in the machine you’ll be expected to muck in as part of a small
team.
Responsibilities
- Operate excavators and plant safely and efficiently in line with site protocols
- Excavate cable trenches, duct routes and substation/joint-bay bases to setting-out
- Carry out daily plant inspections and report faults promptly
- Assist with duct laying, backfill, compaction and reinstatement
- Support the wider gang with manual groundworks tasks as needed
- Follow instructions from the site supervisor accurately
- Keep the work area clean, tidy and safe
- Adhere to all health and safety requirements, including correct PPE at all times
Essential
- Proven experience operating 360° excavators on construction/utility sites
- Valid CPCS or NPORS plant operator card (360 excavator)
- Full UK driving licence
- Strong understanding of site health and safety
- Willing and able to work outdoors in all weather
- CIS registered (self-employed), or willing to register before starting
Desirable
- NRSWA / Streetworks (Unit O1 minimum) for works in the highway
- EUSR SHEA Utility / Power
- Dumper, roller or other plant tickets
- Basic mechanical knowledge for on-site troubleshooting
What we offer
- Competitive day rate, paid under CIS
- Flexible, part-time work fitting around our project schedule
- Varied schemes with a growing ICP contractor
