Laboratory Technician required

The South East Testing Laboratory currently offers both chemical and microbiological analytical services to the commercial building and water hygiene sectors. It delivers a rapid and accurate turnaround for testing of commercial water samples, all with the backing of UKAS accreditation to ISO 17025.
A Laboratory technician is sought to start as soon as possible at the South East Laboratories site currently based at Rochester. Under the direction of the Head of Laboratory Operations the post holder will be expected to assist in the operation of the South East Laboratories business with particular focus on the analytical testing of water samples. This includes a range of activities including:
- Unpacking and sorting of daily samples for analysis.
- Calibrating and maintaining laboratory instrumentation.
- Conduct testing procedures on samples using ICP-OES, Gallery, Ion Chromatography, filtration, and microbiological test methods.
- Entering daily QC data.
- Keeping up with laboratory check sheet tasks including weekly and monthly checks.
- Preparation and checking of standards and QCs.
- Disposal of old samples.
- Commitment to continuous improvement through adherence to ISO 17025 quality systems.
- Typical working hours are 8.00 am – 5.00 pm Tuesday to Saturday, with occasional out extra hours working when required.
- Work well within a team to achieve regular laboratory goals.
- Excellent communication within the team.
- Have a methodical approach with accuracy, high attention to detail and minimal errors.
- Maintain high computer literacy including MS Excel, Word, and the use of a laboratory LIMS system.
- Organise and prioritise workload with flexibility to respond positively to changing demands.
- Keeping neat and tidy working areas and practices.
Challenges: The work involves a variety of both advanced analytical techniques, along with technical tasks. The successful candidate must be flexible, keen, and comfortable with working both alone under own initiative with a high degree of autonomy & maturity, and within a team. Good communication skills both verbal and written are essential.
Knowledge and skill base:
- A degree or equivalent in a scientific discipline and preferably with understanding of analytical techniques.
- Able to adopt a methodical approach to work with accuracy and a high level of attention to detail.
- Able to organise and prioritise workload with flexibility to respond positively to changing demands.
- High degree of computer literacy including the use of programmes such as Excel and Word.

Please note the laboratory is currently based in Rochester and will be moving premises to Sittingbourne in January 2027, so the successful candidate will have to commute to Rochester at first, and then to Sittingbourne.
Pay: £26,500.00 per year
