This position would suit an experienced Branch Manager with a background in removals, logistics, transport, furniture supply/distribution, or a commercially focused operations environment who is looking to build a successful career within the removals industry.
Job Purpose
To take overall responsibility for the success, profitability and operational performance of the Edinburgh branch by agreeing, implementing and achieving branch objectives and targets. The successful candidate will provide strong leadership, drive sales and business growth, and ensure the branch delivers a world-class removals service while maintaining compliance with all relevant legislation, including Health & Safety, transport regulations and fleet maintenance requirements.
Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesBranch Performance & Financial Management
- Monitor branch performance against agreed KPIs and ensure accurate reporting of operational and financial performance.
- Take full responsibility for branch Profit & Loss, including revenue growth, gross profit, cost control and net profit.
- Produce monthly forecasts, budgets and performance reports.
- Manage operating costs and maximise the efficient use of labour, vehicles and resources.
- Ensure effective day-to-day credit control and debtor management.
Sales & Business Development
- Develop and implement a proactive sales and business development strategy to achieve branch revenue and profitability targets.
- Identify, generate and convert new business opportunities across residential, commercial, corporate and international removals.
- Build, maintain and strengthen relationships with new and existing customers to maximise repeat business and client retention.
- Develop strategic partnerships and referral networks to increase market share.
- Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify emerging opportunities and industry trends.
- Generate qualified sales leads through networking, client visits, referrals, digital marketing initiatives and local business engagement.
- Prepare, negotiate and present quotations, proposals, tenders, supplier agreements and commercial contracts.
- Negotiate pricing, service agreements and commercial terms while protecting branch profitability.
- Develop account plans for key customers and carry out regular business reviews to maximise revenue opportunities.
- Promote cross-selling and upselling of storage and value-added services.
- Monitor sales pipeline activity and conversion rates, ensuring sales targets are consistently achieved.
- Analyse customer spend, margins and profitability through quarterly and annual business reviews.
- Develop and implement branch marketing initiatives, advertising campaigns and promotional activities to increase brand awareness and lead generation.
Customer Relationship Management
- Conduct regular client visits to strengthen relationships and identify opportunities for additional services.
- Ensure consistently high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent service delivery.
- Respond professionally to customer enquiries, complaints and service recovery situations.
- Prepare client reports and other management reports as required.
Operations & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all legal requirements relating to VOSA regulations, fleet maintenance, drivers' hours, defect reporting and transport records.
- Maintain compliance with all Health & Safety legislation and company policies.
- Ensure company premises remain secure and customer goods are protected at all times.
- Perform operational audits and quality assurance checks to maintain service standards.
- Contribute to strategic business projects and company initiatives.
Leadership & People Management
- Recruit, induct, train and develop branch employees.
- Lead, motivate and coach staff to achieve individual and team objectives.
- Set quarterly and annual objectives and monitor performance through regular reviews.
- Manage sales and operational teams, setting KPIs and performance targets to maximise productivity.
- Hold regular team meetings to review performance, delegate responsibilities and communicate business objectives.
- Identify training and development needs and support continuous professional development.
- Manage attendance, disciplinary matters and performance management in accordance with company procedures.
- Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, respect and open communication.
- Plan branch resources effectively, including workforce planning, leave management and succession planning.

- Implement company policies and procedures as directed by the Board of Directors.
- Carry out any additional duties appropriate to the role.
Skills & Experience Essential
- Previous Branch, Operations or Logistics Management experience.
- Strong commercial awareness with experience managing Profit & Loss.
- Proven track record of sales growth and business development.
- Experience generating new business and managing key customer relationships.

- Experience preparing quotations, tenders and commercial proposals.
