Full job description

Location: Essex, with travel across London, the South East and East of England

About the Role

Due to continued growth, Houghton Group is looking for an experienced Contracts Manager to join our growing Projects Division and take responsibility for the successful delivery of construction and refurbishment projects.

Our projects typically range from £100,000 to £1 million and include commercial refurbishments, education, healthcare, industrial, office fit-outs, public sector works, heritage buildings and specialist refurbishment projects.

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Contracts Manager who can take ownership of multiple projects from pre-start through to completion, lead project teams and build strong relationships with our clients.

The Role

You will be responsible for the overall performance of multiple live projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, efficiently, commercially and to a high standard.

Key responsibilities include:

Managing multiple construction and refurbishment projects from pre-start through to completion.
Leading and supporting Site Managers, Supervisors and project teams.
Developing, monitoring and maintaining project programmes.
Working closely with the Commercial Team to manage budgets, valuations, variations and project performance.
Building strong relationships with clients, consultants and supply chain partners.
Leading progress meetings and providing clear reporting on programme, cost, quality and risk.
Ensuring projects comply with health & safety, quality and contractual requirements.
Coordinating subcontractors, labour, plant, materials and procurement requirements.
Identifying project risks early and implementing appropriate actions.
Overseeing quality, snagging, handover and project close-out.
Ensuring projects are delivered on programme, within budget and to client expectations.

About You

We are looking for someone with strong practical construction knowledge who is comfortable taking ownership, making decisions and getting involved in the day-to-day delivery of their projects.

Ideally, you will have:

Previous Contracts Manager or experienced Project Manager experience within construction or refurbishment.
Strong experience delivering refurbishment and general construction projects.
Experience managing multiple projects and site teams simultaneously.
Good commercial awareness and understanding of project costs, valuations and variations.
Working knowledge of construction contracts, ideally including JCT.
Strong client management, leadership and communication skills.
Good organisational and problem-solving abilities.
SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid qualifications.
Full UK Driving Licence.
