We are looking for a highly experienced Bookkeeper to join our small, friendly team at our head office in Edgeley.
About the Role
This is an exciting role with responsibility for the accurate and efficient running of the day-to-day accounts function across several related businesses.
You will manage bookkeeping, payroll, bank reconciliations, supplier payments, customer invoicing and VAT records, while providing the owner and external accountants with reliable and up-to-date financial information.
We are looking for someone who can work independently, take ownership of their responsibilities and ensure that deadlines are met. The role would suit an experienced Bookkeeper or Senior Bookkeeper who enjoys working within a busy, growing business.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate accounting records across multiple businesses using Sage Line 50.
- Process purchase and sales invoices.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Maintain general ledger accounts, including prepayments and accruals.
- Process accounts accurately through to trial balance.
- Complete daily bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Reconcile deposits, card transactions, payments and payroll entries.
- Prepare bank deposits and reconcile bank statements.
- Manage supplier payments and respond to supplier account queries.
- Raise customer invoices and assist with credit control.
- Manage end-to-end weekly and monthly payrolls.
- Administer workplace pensions and relevant HMRC submissions.
- Maintain accurate VAT records and prepare information for VAT returns.
- Assist with cash-flow monitoring and provide regular cash-position updates.
- Prepare monthly financial information for the owner and external accountants.
- Support stock, cost and margin reporting where required.
- Liaise with external accountants and provide information for year-end accounts.
- Maintain organised financial records and supporting documentation.
- Help improve bookkeeping processes and financial administration.
- Provide general accounts and administrative support to the wider team when required.
About You
You will ideally have:
- At least three years’ experience in a Bookkeeper, Senior Bookkeeper or similar accounts role.
- Strong working knowledge of Sage Line 50.
- The ability to manage bookkeeping through to trial balance.
- Practical experience of accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger maintenance.
- Experience managing weekly and monthly payrolls.
- A good understanding of VAT, pensions and HMRC requirements.
- Strong bank and credit card reconciliation skills.
- Good Excel skills.
- Excellent accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- The ability to work independently and prioritise effectively.
- A reliable, confidential and responsible approach.
- The ability to work well as part of a small, friendly team.
Desirable
- AAT qualified or qualified by experience.
- Experience working across multiple businesses or legal entities.
- Experience within event catering, hospitality, food production, manufacturing or retail.
- Knowledge of stock control, product costing or margin reporting.
- Experience assisting with management accounts and cash-flow reporting.
