Private Housekeeper / House Helper/ laundress
About the role
A private household is looking for a reliable, discreet and detail-focused House Helper to provide regular support within their home.
The role is particularly focused on laundry management, household laundry organisation and keeping specific areas of the home neat and presentable. The household has clear routines and preferences, so someone who is organised, careful and happy to follow detailed instructions would be well suited.
Main Responsibilities
Laundry & Clothing Care
- Managing the household laundry from washing through to putting away
- Reading care labels and following the correct washing instructions
- Washing clothing on the household's preferred cool/snowflake temperature
- Washing towels, blankets and bedding at appropriate warmer temperatures
- Hanging wool items and swimwear to dry rather than using the dryer
- Washing jeans inside out and following the household's preferred drying and ironing routine
- Making full washing-machine loads where possible
- Folding clothes neatly on bedroom shelves
- Keeping wardrobes and closets neat and organised
- Removing unnecessary/extra hangers
- Hanging clothing according to type, such as shirts and dresses
- Ironing collared shirts before putting them away
- Replacing hand towels in the bathrooms
- Emptying small bathroom bins
- Leaving any unidentified clothing on the counter rather than guessing where it belongs
- Towels may be left in the dryer at the end of a shift if necessary
Bedding
Every two weeks:
- Washing and replacing bedding in each bedroom
While Waiting for Laundry
When laundry is running, time can be used to complete the following:
- Loading and unloading the dishwasher
- Leaving items on the dish rack or counter if unsure where they belong
- Cleaning the front-house windows (lower level)
- Sweeping leaves from the front area
- Removing cobwebs
- Straightening the children's bookshelves
This is a private household with a preference for discretion and privacy.

- Experienced and confident with household laundry
- Very organised and detail-focused
- Careful with clothing and different fabric types
- Comfortable following specific household routines
- Discreet and respectful of privacy
- Able to work independently without needing constant direction
- Naturally observant and able to use time efficiently
- Comfortable working in a formal private household
- Reliable and consistent
Pay: £17.00 per hour
