Full job description

After school hours and 1 x full day each weekend

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Children’s Support Worker to work directly with a happy and positive 6-year-old boy with complex needs in his family home. The family are looking for multiple support workers to help promote and support the holistic wellbeing of this wonderful little boy. The successful candidates will be people who are kind, caring, interactive, reliable and supportive.

Our client has Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, Dyskinesia, is a wheelchair user and is enterally fed a blended diet via his gastrostomy. He is non-verbal however with the help of eye-gaze technology, he is very engaging and a real joy to be around. He is fully reliant on adults to meet his personal care and medical needs. He is a very happy and sociable young boy who loves music, movement, using his sensory equipment and accessing the outdoors. He lives with his parents and younger brother in their home which is a non-smoking environment. His parents work collaboratively with the care team, are on board with all care and are warm and welcoming.

We are offering excellent rates of pay and are keen to find people to join the team for the long term as continuity of care and building trust is very important for this child and his family. This is a very rewarding role in which you will be making a positive impact in the child and the family’s life. You will play a key role in providing support on a 1:1 basis, engaging in supporting therapies, providing personal care and helping him with day-to-day activities.

Hours:

Pattern: Monday to Fridays 1 or 2 x after school hours plus 1 weekend day per week totalling 16.5 or 21.5 hours each week.

Term time:

Hours will be worked after school in the following shift pattern below.

Monday to Friday Daytime: 15.45 – 20.15

One weekend day per week: 07.30 – 20.15

Non-term time:

Shifts will be available to cover sickness, annual leave or change in staffing. These could be long days or short shifts to support for family outings, therapy input and additional daytime support

Rates of Pay:

Monday – Friday days and nights - £18 per hour

Weekends - £20 per hour

Bank holidays: 1.5 times the usual weekday hourly rate.

There may be opportunities for additional hours and overtime.

Person Specification

Fun, enthusiastic and happy.
Full Clean UK Driving License.
Experience of working with children; ideally children with cerebral palsy and epilepsy.
Experience of working in a private family home would be beneficial but an appreciation of the sensitivity, respect and privacy of working within a home environment is essential.
Willingness to attend all relevant training sessions and meetings as required.
Willingness to engage and have regular contact with the case manager.
Open to accompanying the family on holiday both in the UK and abroad.
Happy to fulfil some client-related household tasks.
Ability to offer flexibility with working times and hours to help support with periods of sickness or annual leave within the team.
Excellent communication skills including a high standard of written and spoken English and be proficient in record keeping.
Comfortable with basic IT skills.
Ability to keep calm in a stressful environment and responds well to instructions when given.
You should enjoy working alongside others as part of a team yet also be able to self-direct tasks and activities with our client.
An ability to follow care plans and risk assessments as well as routine plans.
Help with all of the child’s care and observational requirements including personal care, continence care, dressing /undressing and medication administration.
To fully support all aspects of the child’s ongoing rehabilitation as set out by our child’s treating therapists and professionals. 
To maintain a safe environment for the child; in the home and in all community-based activities where applicable. 
To report immediately to the employer, and the case manager any concerns regarding the child’s medical, physical or psychological health, and to record this appropriately.
All matters relating to the child’s situation and family are to be treated as confidential and are not to be disclosed to a third party under any circumstance. 
To adhere to CQC compliance in relation to delivery of care and support.
A No smoking/ vaping policy is strictly in place.
To adhere to Covid-19 guidelines and risk assessments.
