The Old Mill Village Shop and Post Office is a small business just outside of Truro. We are professional, agile, fast paced and our goal is to give our customers a lighthearted enjoyable experience in their short time collecting there day to day necessities or sorting their postal requirements. We are seeking a dedicated and customer-focused Post Office Assistant to join our team. This role involves providing excellent service to customers, managing postal and shop transactions, and supporting the daily operations of the post office and shop, including daily deliveries. The ideal candidate will possess strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work efficiently in a busy environment. Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and assist with their postal and retial needs in a professional manner
- Process postal and shop transactions accurately, including mailing, parcels, lottery and financial services
- Manage cash register operations and handle payments securely
- Provide information about products and services, upselling where appropriate
- Maintain organised workspaces and ensure that all areas are tidy and welcoming
- Assist customers with basic enquiries and direct them to relevant services/products when necessary
- Support merchandising efforts by displaying promotional materials effectively
- Uphold phone etiquette when handling inbound calls and customer inquiries
- Manage time efficiently to serve customers promptly during busy periods
- Ensure compliance with regulations and security procedures
Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail
- Basic maths skills for handling cash transactions accurately
- Good time management abilities to prioritise tasks effectively
- Ability to demonstrate professional phone etiquette and customer service excellence
- Experience in merchandising or retail environments is beneficial
- Ability to work well within a team and independently when required
- Previous experience in postal or retail services is preferred but not mandatory

Pay: £12.85-£14.00 per hour
