Full job description

Trainee Pizza Chef

We have an excellent opportunity for someone looking to learn and develop their kitchen skills and join our hard-working, friendly team.

No previous kitchen or pizza-making experience is necessary. If you’re enthusiastic, reliable, keen to learn and willing to get stuck in, we’ll provide full on-the-job training.

Working in a busy restaurant can be a challenge, particularly through the summer season. It’s fast-paced and it’s not always easy, but we work hard, have a good time and support each other through busy services.

You’ll start by learning the basics of how our kitchen operates and, as your confidence and experience develop, we’d like you to progress towards stretching dough and cooking pizzas yourself in our stone-bake oven.

What you’ll be doing

Your role will include:

Preparing ingredients and getting the kitchen ready for service
Topping pizzas
Preparing side dishes
Cutting and finishing pizzas
Sending food from the pass
Following recipes and portion guidelines
Washing up and helping to keep the kitchen running smoothly
Keeping your section clean, tidy and organised
Cleaning down the kitchen at the end of service
Following our food hygiene and food safety procedures
Supporting the rest of the kitchen team during busy services
Learning how to handle and stretch pizza dough
Progressing towards cooking pizzas in our stone-bake oven

What we’re looking for

Experience is not essential. We’re much more interested in finding someone with the right attitude.

Ideally, you’ll have:

Excellent timekeeping and reliability
High standards of hygiene and cleanliness
A willingness to learn new skills
Plenty of enthusiasm
Initiative and the ability to adapt
The ability to work well as part of a team
The confidence to work in a busy, fast-paced environment
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends

A Level 1 Food Hygiene certificate would be useful, but isn’t essential.

Hours and pay

We currently have part-time positions available for an immediate start, with the opportunity to move to full-time hours over the coming months.

You’ll need to be flexible and available to work weekends.

Start date: ASAP
Pay: Living Wage as a minimum, plus tips
Job type: Part-time, with the opportunity to progress to full-time
