About the role
The Compliance Technical Support Officer plays a key role in supporting the delivery of statutory compliance across Cambridgeshire County Council's corporate estate, including maintained schools. Working within the Facilities Management Compliance Team, the postholder will provide technical and administrative support to ensure compliance activities are effectively monitored, recorded, reported and maintained in accordance with legislative requirements, corporate policies and industry best practice.
The role will support the management of compliance contracts and programmes relating to areas such as fire safety, asbestos management, water hygiene, gas safety, electrical safety, lifts, mechanical systems and other statutory compliance disciplines. This includes maintaining accurate compliance records, monitoring contractor performance, reviewing certification and documentation, supporting audits and inspections, and assisting with the management of compliance data systems.
The postholder will work closely with the Compliance Manager, Head of Facilities Management and other Property Services colleagues, contractors and stakeholders across the organisation to ensure compliance activities are completed within required timescales and that risks, actions and remedial works are effectively tracked and reported.
A key aspect of the role is providing accurate management information and performance reporting, supporting the development of compliance processes, and helping to ensure the Council maintains compliance with relevant legislation, regulatory requirements and internal standards across its property portfolio.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong organisational skills, attention to detail and an interest in property compliance to develop their expertise within a professional Facilities Management environment, contributing directly to the safety of building users and the effective management of the Council's estate.

What will you be doing?
As a Compliance Technical Support Officer, you will play an important role in helping the Council maintain a safe, compliant and well-managed property estate.
You will support the delivery of statutory compliance programmes across a diverse portfolio of buildings, ensuring that compliance activities, inspections, testing and remedial actions are appropriately planned, monitored and recorded. Working closely with the Compliance Manager and fellow Compliance colleagues, contractors and service providers, you will help ensure that legislative requirements and corporate standards are consistently achieved.
Key responsibilities will include:
-
Maintaining accurate compliance records, data and certification across multiple compliance disciplines.
-
Supporting the management of compliance systems and databases, ensuring information is up to date, robust and auditable.
-
Monitoring contractor performance, service delivery and statutory inspection programmes.
-
Reviewing compliance documentation, certificates and reports, identifying any gaps, risks or actions that require attention.
-
Assisting with compliance audits, inspections and assurance activities.
-
Producing performance reports, dashboards and management information to support decision making.
-
Raising, tracking and monitoring remedial works and corrective actions through to completion.
-
Acting as a key point of contact for compliance-related enquiries from colleagues, contractors and stakeholders.
-
Supporting the continuous improvement of compliance processes, procedures and reporting arrangements.
-
Contributing to the delivery of a safe environment for staff, service users, visitors and contractors across the Council's estate.
This role offers the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge in areas such as fire safety, asbestos management, water hygiene, gas safety, electrical safety and other statutory compliance disciplines, whilst working as part of a professional and supportive Facilities Management and Compliance team.
About you
We are looking for a proactive and organised individual who has a keen eye for detail and is passionate about helping to maintain safe, compliant and well-managed buildings.
You will have experience of working in an administrative, technical support, facilities management or compliance-related environment and be comfortable managing large volumes of information accurately. You will be confident working with systems and data, able to identify issues, track actions and ensure records are maintained to a high standard.
You will be an effective communicator, capable of building positive working relationships with colleagues, contractors and stakeholders at all levels. You will be comfortable managing competing priorities, working to deadlines and taking ownership of tasks through to completion.
We would particularly like to hear from candidates who can demonstrate:
-
Experience of working within a facilities management, property, compliance or technical support environment.
-
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied workload.
-
Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate records.
-
Good written and verbal communication skills.
-
Experience of working with databases, management systems and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
-
The ability to analyse information, identify trends and support the resolution of issues.
-
A customer-focused approach with the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
-
The ability to work independently whilst also contributing positively to a team environment.
Whilst not essential, knowledge or experience of statutory compliance areas such as fire safety, asbestos management, water hygiene, gas safety, electrical safety or health and safety compliance would be advantageous.
Most importantly, you will be someone who is enthusiastic, reliable and committed to supporting the delivery of high-quality compliance services that help keep our buildings safe for staff, visitors and service users.
