Job Introduction
We are currently recruiting for a Project Manager to join our Completions & Transitions team here at SCS Railways, supporting the Shafts & Headhouses Delivery unit.
About the role:
This role is the Project Manager for engineering assurance activities for civil, architectural and fit out disciplines for shafts and headhouses, focussing on construction and handover phases.
Scope of works will cover all Shafts and Headhouses and consist of covering RC, structural steelwork, blockwork, cladding, miscellaneous steelwork, passive fire protection, and landscaping. Shafts assets span from West Ruislip to Euston, and regular attendance at asset sites is a key part of this role.
This role will plan, coordinate and report on construction assurance activities, ensuring that programmes are in place at each asset for assurance activities, and that these are actively managed by the Project Engineer team.
This role will liaise on day-to-day requirements between their technical and quality assurance teams, and the engineering management team to identify key risks and opportunities to the assurance of the works, reporting regularly to the Completion and Transitions Lead on escalations required to maintain progress.
Regular liaison with subcontractors and suppliers is a key part of this role, ensuring each supplier fully understands and is delivering against the requirements of their Works Information, and has a relationship to provide escalation back to SCS.
This role is also responsible for the accurate digital delivery of the Project Information Model for construction assurance in so far as the correct allocation of documents and files in the information systems forms a key part of the project information delivery plan.
Reporting structure:
Reporting to the Completions & Transitions Lead, this role will manage a team of Project Engineers.
Main Responsibilities
General Assurance

Understanding and ensuring the asset programmes are maintained, that the project CDE (Common Data Environment) reflects plans and can be used to interrogate progress.

To monitor and report on assurance of in-progress works to highlight key risks to the timely and accurate assurance of the works that otherwise might not become clear until after works are complete on site.

Lead on implementing digital solutions for assurance gathering on site.
Assurance planning

Working with the project engineers to have an assurance lookahead programme for each work package, in place and populated no more than 2 weeks after the completion of the package.

To report on this weekly to the leads with justifications and mitigations for date movements.
Technical Assurance

To work with the Project Engineers and Technical Assurance Team to ensure that consistently high quality evidences are planned and delivered to satisfy System Safety, Technical Interfaces, Requirements and Undertakings and Assurances
The Ideal Candidate
- Degree level qualification (or equivalent) in a Civil Engineering allied subject or HND in Civil Engineering and vocational training in Engineering

Main contractor and major project experience highly desirable

Ideally you are currently working at agent or project manager level

Experience of programme management

Knowledge and Understanding of construction contract law and forms of contract through experience and formal training.

Computer competence (MS Word, Excel, Document control system, Aphex).

Relevant CSCS Card

Training in Health & Safety and Environmental management

Understand the Client and Joint Venture Partners' Environment and Sustainability Policies, Processes and statutory requirements as they affect the company's operations and ensure that the requirements, as applicable within their discipline, are implemented on the project.

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
