The SEND Team plays a vital role in ensuring children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities receive the right support at the right time. Working closely with families, schools, health colleagues and partner agencies, we coordinate statutory Education, Health and Care needs assessments and manage Education, Health and Care Plans, helping to secure positive outcomes and meaningful opportunities for children and young people across Gateshead.

What you will get to do

Manage a caseload of children and young people requiring statutory SEND assessment and EHCP support.
Coordinate Education, Health and Care needs assessments, ensuring statutory timescales are met.
Act as the named officer for families, schools and partner agencies throughout the assessment, planning and review process.
Work closely with education, health, social care and voluntary sector professionals to gather and evaluate information.
Draft, amend and quality assure Education, Health and Care Plans.
Attend and, where appropriate, chair meetings as a representative of the SEND Service.
Support children and young people through key transition points, including transfers into and out of the authority.
Provide guidance, support and advice to families, helping them make informed decisions.
Contribute to SEND Panels and placement processes, including specialist and out-of-authority provision.
Maintain accurate records and ensure high-quality case management across SEND systems and databases

Influence futures, support families and shape positive SEND provision across Gateshead.

What you will bring

Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and experience of applying statutory SEND processes in practice.
Experience of working within a local authority, health organisation or similar multi-agency environment.
Experience of building effective relationships with children, young people, families, schools and a wide range of professionals.
Experience of gathering, analysing and presenting information from multiple sources, including producing clear written reports and planning documentation.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage complex casework, prioritise competing demands and meet statutory timescales.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and support informed decision-making
Educated to Level 3 standard in a relevant discipline (or equivalent) with a good standard of literacy and numeracy, alongside the ability to use specialist ICT systems and digital applications effectively
