We are seeking a motivated General Practitioners (GP) in Emergency Medicine to join our team working at the Emergency Department at West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven in Cumbria. As a GP in our ED, the post holder will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, safe, and patient-centred urgent and emergency care to our local communities.
As a GP in Emergency Medicine, the post holder work closely with a skilled multidisciplinary team, including consultants, SAS doctors, resident doctors, advanced clinical practitioners, nurses, and healthcare support staff, to deliver safe, high-quality, and patient-centred care for a broad range of emergency as well as urgent conditions.
The post holder will be responsible, along with the multidisciplinary clinical team for the delivery of urgent care within the North Cumbria Emergency Medicine service. The post holder will be expected to actively join in teaching and training of more junior doctors and medical students and to join in audit activity.
The post holder’s clinical expertise and leadership will ensure patients receive timely assessment, treatment, and clear onward care pathways. Providing expert clinical care across our Emergency Care services, supporting safe and effective urgent and emergency care delivery.
The post offers a total of up to 12 clinical sessions, which will be filled on a portfolio basis. We actively encourage applications from GPs who wish to combine Emergency Department work with ongoing GP practice, enabling successful candidates to maintain their core general practice commitments alongside their Emergency Medicine role. Provide expert clinical care in our Emergency Department, supporting safe and effective Emergency Medicine delivery.
Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to optimise patient outcomes.
Play an active role in the wider unplanned care programme, including departmental meetings, multidisciplinary discussions, teaching sessions, and audit reviews.
Take part in audit and quality improvement activity, supporting evidence-based practice and service development
There will also be opportunity to actively contribute to the teaching and training of junior doctors, medical students, trainee advanced practitioners, and trainee physician associates.
