About The Organisation

NHS Lanarkshire is comprised of Acute Services (which currently provide hospital based services over 3 main sites), Corporate & Property & Support Services, North and South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnerships which provide integrated primary healthcare and social care services to local communities and surrounding areas.

The Role

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will carry out care duties for patients, in support of a registered nurse/Operating Department practitioner (ODP) and will regularly work unsupervised but with the wider theatre team available for reference at all times.

The post holder will also carry out assigned duties involving direct and indirect patient care within the theatre environments

The post holder will be required to perform physical/technical/emotional aspects of patient care in an efficient, effective and responsible manner with accuracy in a busy environment.

In this key role, you will:

Check theatre list and ensure theatre is ready for use. This involves cleaning, obtaining, checking and technically setting up of specialist theatre equipment, cleaning of work surfaces, floors, cupboards etc prior to each surgical case to ensure patient safety and infection control to reduce the risk of infection. The postholder may be required without warning to reset, replace, and adjust theatre equipment during the procedure to ensure patient safety, as per NHS Lanarkshire Protocols / manufacturer’s guidance.
Responsible for the cleaning and sterilising of all types of flexi-scopes including Bronchoscopes in line with NHSL standard operating procedures, ensuring that all documentation and usage is recording accurately due to the short term-scale (3 hours) that the equipment can be on stand-by for before the need to be re-sterilised. The Post holder would need to plan ahead to ensure scopes are available for the procedures. The post holder will work out with the theatre - e.g. in X Ray Dept, or in ITU to support use of equipment when anaesthetist is undertaking a bronchoscopy.
Will assist endoscope practitioner with taking endoscopic biopsies
Be responsible as part of the team for accurately documenting information with respect to swab counts, instrument checks, needles and all other recordable implements and sundries, weighing swabs and recording information during operations on the board to enable the surgeon/anaesthetist to ascertain how much blood/fluid loss there is.

What You'll Bring:

SVQ III in peri-operative care or working towards or equivalent -peri operative experience.

SVQ III in healthcare, or working towards, or equivalent experience working within a caring environment/role.

Postholders with no previous clinical healthcare experience will be treated in accordance with Annex U Arrangements for Pay and Banding of Trainees.
