Altrad are seeking an experienced and strategic Quality Director to lead the development and execution of the MEH Alliance Quality Strategy on Hinkley Point C.
This is a senior leadership role responsible for ensuring quality is embedded across the planning, execution, installation, verification, handover and completion of the Mechanical, Electrical and HVAC scope. The role will provide strategic leadership across multiple Alliance partners, disciplines and delivery teams, ensuring the programme meets contractual, nuclear safety and regulatory requirements.
A key priority will be the timely creation, validation and acceptance of quality records. The Quality Director will establish the systems, governance, processes and behaviours required to ensure quality documentation is produced accurately and right first time at the point of installation, rather than retrospectively. The role will also lead the development of a strong and consistent quality culture across the Alliance, aligning partner organisations behind a shared approach to quality delivery and assurance.
Key Deliverables / Accountabilities:
- Develop and implement the MEH Alliance Quality Strategy, ensuring it supports successful programme delivery and aligns with HPC quality and regulatory expectations.
- Ensure quality is fully integrated into construction planning, installation processes, verification and inspection regimes, and handover and completion activities.
- Provide strategic leadership to ensure the Alliance delivers the required quality records in accordance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
- Lead the programme-wide approach to the production, validation and acceptance of quality records, ensuring documentation is complete, accurate, traceable and delivered on time.
- Roll out and embed digital tools across the MEH programme to optimise the capture and production of quality records.
- Establish processes and controls to ensure quality records are generated during installation rather than retrospectively.
- Work closely with construction, engineering, handover and commissioning teams to embed quality record production into normal working practices.
- Ensure the Alliance can demonstrate clear configuration control and traceability for all installed components and systems.
- Create a single, coherent quality approach across all Alliance partners, reducing fragmentation between partner systems and processes.
- Ensure quality expectations are clear and consistent across the Alliance, with roles and responsibilities understood at all levels.
- Standardise quality processes wherever possible and promote consistent approaches across partner organisations.
- Build strong working relationships with Alliance partners to ensure alignment, ownership and accountability for quality delivery.
- Act as the senior interface between the MEH Alliance and the wider HPC quality organisation.
- Drive the development of a strong quality culture across the Alliance, ensuring quality is recognised as a fundamental part of safe and effective delivery.
- Promote a culture where quality is owned by delivery teams, issues are identified and addressed early, and learning and continuous improvement are actively encouraged.
- Work closely with leadership teams to reinforce quality expectations through effective leadership, behaviours, communication and operational practices.
- Establish clear governance arrangements to ensure quality performance is monitored, reported and acted upon.
- Develop meaningful performance metrics that provide leadership teams with clear visibility of quality record production, emerging risks and areas requiring intervention.
- Provide regular quality assurance updates to the MEH leadership team and wider HPC programme.
- Assess the capability of the existing Quality organisation and implement changes where required to ensure it is fit for purpose for the next phase of the programme.
- Ensure the programme has the appropriate skills, structure and leadership capability within the quality function.
- Develop and strengthen the capability of the wider quality community across the Alliance.
- Provide visible and effective leadership across the programme as a member of the senior leadership team.
- Influence senior stakeholders across multiple organisations and promote a consistent approach to quality delivery.
- Support the development of a high-performing Alliance culture.
- Contribute to wider programme strategy, governance and delivery.
Key Requirements / Qualifications:
- Significant senior-level experience leading quality functions within large-scale construction, engineering or infrastructure programmes.
- Proven experience developing and implementing quality strategies within complex, multi-partner delivery environments.
- Strong understanding of quality assurance, quality control, inspection, verification and documentation requirements.
- Proven experience managing quality records, handover documentation and configuration control within major projects.
- Experience working within highly regulated and safety-critical environments, ideally within the nuclear sector.
- Strong understanding of nuclear quality and regulatory expectations is highly desirable.
- Experience working across Joint Ventures, Alliances or other complex multi-organisational delivery models.
- Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders across multiple organisations and establish consistent quality standards and processes.
- Strong leadership capability, with experience developing high-performing quality teams and driving cultural change.
- Experience implementing digital quality management systems and tools to improve the capture, control and assurance of quality records is advantageous.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify programme risks and implement effective interventions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at senior leadership level.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, continuous improvement and regulatory compliance.
