About the role
TERRA Consultancy is looking for a qualified or experienced Mobility Trainer, Rehabilitation Officer for Visual Impairment (ROVI), Orientation & Mobility Specialist or Habilitation Specialist to support a blind university student at Aberystwyth University.
This is a rewarding opportunity to provide one-to-one specialist support and help a visually impaired student develop greater independence, confidence and safe mobility around the university and local area.
What the support may include
- Orientation and mobility training
- Safe navigation around the university campus
- Route planning and familiarisation
- Supporting independent travel
- Navigating to university buildings and facilities
- Developing confidence with local routes and public transport
- Identifying and overcoming mobility barriers
Who we are looking for
We are looking for professionals with a relevant qualification and/or professional membership and relevant experience supporting people with visual impairment.
Relevant qualifications may include:
- BSc / BSc (Hons) Rehabilitation Work (Visual Impairment)
- Foundation Degree in Rehabilitation Work (Visual Impairment)
- PG Diploma in Habilitation and Disabilities of Sight
- Certification in Habilitation Studies
- Diploma in Higher Education in Rehabilitation Studies (Visual Impairment)
- BTEC Professional Diploma in Rehabilitation Studies (Visual Impairment)
- Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care – Rehabilitation Studies (Visual Impairment)
- Habilitation Work with Children and Young People – BSc (Hons)
- Graduate Diploma in Low Vision Rehabilitation
- Combined Mobility Officer and Technical Officer Certificate
Professional membership
We will also consider applicants who hold full or associate membership of a relevant professional body, including:
- Rehabilitation Workers Professional Network (RWPN)
- Habilitation VI UK
Experience supporting blind or visually impaired adults, particularly university or higher education students, is highly desirable.

DBS requirement
You must have a recent DBS or be willing to apply for a new DBS. A charge may apply.
