This role provides an opportunity to become an important part of our Head Office team, supporting both our international trade activities and the regulatory compliance of our products.
Role Overview
Hawke Optics Limited is looking for an organised and proactive Import/Export Clerk to join the team at our Head Office in Melton.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the smooth movement of goods into and out of the UK, ensuring that import and export documentation is accurate and that shipments comply with relevant customs and regulatory requirements.
Experience of EU product compliance regulations would be a distinct advantage, particularly in relation to products being placed on the UK and European markets.
Key Responsibilities
- · Prepare and process import and export documentation accurately and efficiently.
- · Arrange and coordinate international shipments with freight forwarders, couriers and transport companies.
- · Ensure the correct commercial invoices, packing lists and shipping documentation are produced.
- · Assist with customs declarations and provide information required for customs clearance.
- · Check commodity codes, country of origin information and other customs data.
- · Maintain accurate records of imports, exports and supporting documentation.
- · Monitor shipments and resolve delays, documentation queries or customs issues.
- · Liaise with suppliers, customers, freight forwarders and internal departments.
- · Ensure import and export activities comply with applicable UK customs requirements and company procedures.
- · Assist with checking freight charges and other import/export costs.
- · Support the business with documentation required for shipments to EU and non-EU destinations.
- · Keep up to date with changes to customs procedures and international trade requirements.
- · Assist with product compliance documentation where required.
EU & UK Product Compliance
Experience or knowledge in this area would be advantageous. The role may assist with:
- · EU and UK product compliance requirements.
- · CE and UKCA marking requirements where applicable.
- · Maintaining product compliance and technical documentation.
- · EU declarations of conformity and UK declarations of conformity.
- · Liaising with suppliers to obtain relevant compliance documentation.
- · Checking that required product information, labelling and documentation is available.
- · Supporting compliance with relevant EU directives and regulations applicable to Hawke products.
- · Maintaining organised records to demonstrate product compliance.
- · Keeping up to date with changes to UK and EU product regulations.
Skills & ExperienceEssential
- · Strong administration and organisational skills.
- · Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- · Good written and verbal communication skills.
- · Confident using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
- · Ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines.
- · Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers, customers, freight companies and colleagues.
- · A practical approach to problem solving.
- · Previous experience in an import/export, shipping, logistics or customs administration role.
- · Knowledge of UK import and export procedures.
- · Experience dealing with freight forwarders and customs agents.
- · Understanding of commodity codes, customs documentation and rules of origin.
Desirable
- · Experience or knowledge of EU product compliance regulations.
- · Familiarity with CE marking, UKCA marking and declarations of conformity.
- · Experience working within a product-based, distribution or manufacturing business.
