We are seeking a hardworking and reliable Scrap Metal Labourer to join our team. The successful candidate will assist with the sorting, processing, and handling of scrap metal while maintaining a safe and organised work environment. This role involves manual labour, operating basic equipment, and working both indoors and outdoors.
Key Responsibilities
- Sort and separate ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
- Load and unload scrap materials from vehicles and containers.
- Assist with the dismantling and processing of scrap metal.
- Operate hand tools and basic machinery safely and efficiently.
- Keep the yard clean, tidy, and free from hazards.
- Follow all health and safety procedures, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist customers delivering scrap materials when required.
- Identify and remove non-recyclable or hazardous materials.
- Support other team members with general yard duties as required.
- Report equipment faults, safety concerns, or incidents to supervisors.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Good level of physical fitness and ability to perform manual handling tasks.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.
- Strong awareness of health and safety practices.
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Desirable
- Previous experience in recycling, waste management, construction, or a scrapyard environment.
- Forklift licence (or willingness to obtain one).
- Experience operating loading equipment or machinery.
- Basic knowledge of different metal types and recycling processes.
Working Conditions
- Full-time position.
