Our Role
Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, the primary responsibility of this role is to focus on business partnering and financial control for our Distribution and Merchandising teams.
You will become an expert in all the key drivers of our 3rd party logistics operation and be able to proactively produce insightful analysis to ensure the right commercial outcomes for the business. You will also be responsible for supporting the Merchandising department to deliver effective and efficient analysis across a number of areas, inclusive of, but not limited to, Margin and Stock. You will also be expected to understand quickly the company WSSI process whilst also offering support to the Merch teams during key budgeting and forecasting periods ensuring they align with sales, margin and volume forecasts provided by the wider business.
What you’ll be doing

Manage the Merchandising and Distribution cost base, providing the appropriate levels of controls & stakeholder support throughout the year

Be the key point of contact for the Merchandising team, building a clear understanding of the sales, stock and margin processes and providing analysis and challenge to support the business in making the right commercial decisions

Prepare and maintain financial budgets and forecasts for gross margin with emphasis at a department and price status level.

Monitor and report on sales, gross margin, markdown and profitability performance by category, channel, product and price status.

Key Business Partner to our Distribution team and our 3PL provider

Support the Distribution Centre in building and challenging robust KPIs and in managing the cost base appropriately

Support the carrier management team setting up cost controls and appropriate KPIs for our store delivery network
Business Partner with:

The White Company CCO who is responsible for both the Distribution Centre and Merchandising.

The internal and external stakeholders of the distribution centre. Understand key activities and variances and ensure that distribution activity is aligned with business expectations

The Heads of Merchandising and the wider Merch team offering insight into key areas around margin and price point performance, budgeting and forecasting amongst others to ensure the business is clear on any risks or opportunities in these areas.
What skills & experience you’ll need

Qualified accountant
-
Previous experience working with margin and weekly sales, stock and intake models (WSSI) advantageous, alongside Retail experience in Commercial Finance roles

Experience of co-ordinating Finance activities such as Budgeting, Planning & Forecasting, with the ability to forward plan accordingly

High degree of systems literacy with the ability to translate data into insightful analysis

Knowledge and experience of working with and building PowerBI reports would be advantageous

High degree of presentation skills as regards financial performance & analysis

Strong proven analytical skills with the ability to identify key business issues & provide appropriate analysis to facilitate business debate

The ability to be able to communicate effectively across Finance & Non-Finance stakeholders, as well as senior management

A personality that can build strong relationships across Finance & the rest of the business

A desire to continually improve outputs & process & someone who sets high standards for themselves & others
