Main Purpose of the Role:
Senior Residential Support Workers will support the management team in leading and managing the adult team according to the ethos and approach of the organisation, ensuring that positive outcomes and high-quality care are delivered to all children and young people in our care according to the home’s statement of purpose and in line with the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015.
To be responsible for effective day to day planning and leading of shifts. For supporting a team of adults and work allocations, as well as undertaking supervisions and direct work with children in the residential home.
Ensure that the safety, well-being and welfare of the children and young people are always at the heart of every decision made.
Main duties and responsibilities:
General
· Ensure that safeguarding is of the highest priority whilst promoting the welfare and development of our children/young people.
· Strive to provide the best experience possible for the children/young people - enabling, engaging and empowering them to meet their placement objectives and achieve their aspirations.
· Participate in adult meetings, supervision sessions, training and workshop sessions, both for professional development and to meet the children and young people’s needs.
· Create in conjunction with the other members of the team, a safe and caring atmosphere where independence and growth are supported by a positive environment.
· To support with managerial duties as directed and support the Manager in the Deputy Managers absence.
· Work in accordance with the home’s rota ensuring that cover is maintained at all times to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of the children and young people.
· Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of children and young people, their families and visitors, complying with safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times and promoting an honest and open culture in the home.
· To ensure that the young people’s needs are recognised and met where possible. This includes ensuring that they are free from discrimination within the home and to challenge discrimination from outside of the home.
· To ensure that the home meets the individual needs of the young people as well as the needs of the group.
· To ensure that the home provides an environment that is safe and sensitive to the needs of the young people being looked after.
· Ensure policies, procedures, work practices and instructions are implemented and followed to the highest standards by both yourself and the team.
· Lead, plan and manage shifts and effectively role model to both the children/young people and the adults.
· Supervise adults and actively support their professional development, upskilling adults wherever possible.
· Build and maintain good, professional working relationships with the team around the child/young person, including local authorities, education provisions, family members and other professionals involved in the child/young persons care.
· Ensure that all necessary record keeping is completed in a timely manner and to a high standard.
. Ensure all allocated daily checks and audits are completed, to the expected standard and submitted within the timescale.
. To complete on call duties across children’s services as and when required (depending on experience).
· Ensure the home is maintained to a high standard and that all household tasks such as cleaning, laundry and cooking is completed.
· Ensure maintenance tasks are reported within the appropriate timescales and followed up.
· Ensure the maintenance of health and safety standards in accordance with the organisation’s policies and procedures are maintained at all times and report any issues/concerns.
· Carry out all the duties commensurate with the general level of responsibility for the post.
· Lead and manage adults within the home, ensuring rotas are maintained to meet the needs of children and young people, making the best use of available adults.
· Be a positive role model to adults and lead by example at all times.
· Mentor new adults joining the team and effectively support them through the induction process.
·Correctly complete all administrative functions associated with the line management of adults
· Provide regular supervision to a number of adults to:
o Ensure adults are following the service’s aims and objectives and approaches in their work
o Monitor work with individual children and young people
o Provide personal support and professional guidance
o Identify training and development needs
· Support the Registered/Deputy Manager with the recruitment of adults within Safer Recruitment guidelines as required.
· Reflect on adults training and development plans within supervision and support adults to perform to a high standard.
· Ensure all adults are aware of, understand and execute the legal requirements in relation to the administration of medicines.
· Support and monitor adults to ensure effective communication and relationship building between all adults, children, young people, their families and social care professionals.
· Support the management team in ensuring the home provides the highest standards of care consistent with the requirements of Ofsted.
· Undertake direct care tasks as needed by children/ young people.
· Write/update placement and health plans to ensure that care planning is centred around the needs of the child/young person and is carried out effectively and professionally by the team, reflecting current best practice.
· Ensure that robust risk assessments and behaviour support plans are completed/updated in a timely manner.
· Undertake Keyworking/1-1 sessions with children/young people that are meaningful and supportive of safety, well-being and development.
· Liaise with families and health and social care professionals involved in the care of each child/young person, keeping them up to date and informed of progress in a way that is appropriate for them and their needs.
· Attend meetings around the children/young people and effectively advocate for them as required.
· Follow internal complaints and safeguarding procedures to ensure the safety of each child/young person and as directed by the Registered Manager. or in their absence, the Deputy Manager.
Essential
· Previous experience of managing behaviours which challenge
· Experience of working with children and young people
· The ability to work on your own initiative and prioritise your workload along with the workload of the team
· Good time management
· Good listening and communication skills
· Ability to understand and follow policies and procedures
· Excellent written skills to complete required documentation
· The ability to lead and work effectively in a team
· Relevant Level 3 qualification or equivalent in children and young people’s services
· Full driving License
· On call duties as required (depending on experience)
Desirable
· Minimum of 12 months previous experience of working within a children’s setting with children/young people who have emotional and behavioural difficulties
· Be flexible in hours of work to effectively support the home
· Ability to coach and mentor new colleagues and support their induction
· Good written skills to complete required documentation
· Have good IT skills
· Good problem-solving skills

Pay: £15.30-£15.70 per hour
Expected hours: 38 – 45 per week
