We are seeking a compassionate, innovative and enthusiastic Band 7 Lead Speech and Language Therapist to join the Neurodevelopmental Service (NDS), part of our ‘ Outstanding ’ community Children’s and Young People’s Specialist services. You would be leading the development of the Speech & Language Therapy role within a dynamic multidisciplinary team delivering diagnostic assessment for young people with suspected Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
The role is a combination of patient facing work within the clinic, school or home environments and team leadership. You will be a core member of the leadership team supporting the needs of the service. The service is at an exciting time of development and as the band 7 Discipline Lead you will be involved in promoting the SLT role within the team.
This is a part-time post for 22.5 hours per week and will be across Norfolk; including Kings Lynn and Norwich. Bases are negotiable and flexible working is supported and includes agile/home working where relevant.
The NDS offers diagnostic assessment and a range of post diagnostic workshops to support the lives of children and young people who have suspected Neurodevelopmental disorders such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
As a Lead Speech and Language Therapist you will be leading a small multidisciplinary team. Duties will include:
Supporting the NDS Clinical Lead in developing the SLT pathway within service developments embedding professional standards of practice and up to date evidence base.
Identify future service development needs and contribute to recommendations for models of implementation.
Work in a timely and efficient way to meet service demands, encouraging and supporting other team members to do the same.
Clinical supervision, including specialist supervision around specific assessments requiring knowledge of sensory processing differences and impact on diagnostic decision making.
You will also be responsible for supporting and supervising other disciplines within the team which may include newly qualified Clinical Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Nurses, and Assistant Practitioners.

You will be a key worker for a small caseload of young people in their assessment journey. This will include:
Delivering Autism and ADHD assessments using formal and informal assessment methods such as ADOS, school observations, early developmental history interviews.
Writing thorough and detailed reports to evidence diagnostic decision making.
Lead a multidisciplinary team. Members of the team have a small caseload of children and young people they hold responsibility for. As the lead for the Team, you will be responsible for supporting clinicians with planning and delivery of care to enable the assessment process to be completed efficiently and in a timely way. Ensure NICE guidelines for diagnosis are met.
Complete a monthly sub team report as requested, which gives information about the progress of children and young people through the diagnostic pathway.
Facilitate multidisciplinary discussions in order to reach diagnostic outcome following assessment.
Feedback to young people and their families the outcome of diagnostic assessment.
Deliver post diagnostic support workshops/groups.
- Contribute, evaluate, and lead the development of leaflets and information. Regarding ADHD and Autism for children, families, and professionals.
- Lead working groups within the team targeted at developing a specific outcome.
