We are excited to offer the opportunity for a Band 7 Highly Specialist Musculoskeletal (MSK) Podiatrist. They will work as an autonomous practitioner responsible for the advanced assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with complex foot and lower limb musculoskeletal conditions. Using expert clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice, the post holder will deliver specialist interventions to improve function, reduce pain, and optimise patient outcomes.
The role involves independently managing complex patients and pathologies, undertaking biomechanical and gait assessments, prescribing appropriate treatments, and developing personalised rehabilitation plans. The post holder will work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and provide specialist advice to patients and healthcare professionals.
In addition to clinical practice, the Highly Specialist MSK Podiatrist will contribute to the service development, clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement activities. They support the education and development of colleagues and students, provide clinical leadership within the service, and promote the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred care.

Autonomously assess, diagnose and manage patients with complex MSK conditions, developing and delivering evidence-based treatment programmes across different care settings. Triage and prioritise referrals, undertake comprehensive assessments, and provide highly specialist advice, interventions and education to patients and healthcare professionals. Develop care pathways, contribute to MDT medical care plans, and support behavioural change to improve outcomes and resolve MSK pathology.
Provide clinical leadership through specialist teaching, training and supervision of podiatrists, podiatry assistants and students. Lead educational sessions for healthcare professionals and patient groups across ABUHB, contribute to service development, and support research, clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives. Offer expert advice on the development and delivery of MSK services and deputise for the Principal Podiatrist when required.
Deliver advanced specialist interventions including casting techniques, prescription and evaluation of functional and palliative orthoses. Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, providing specialist MSK input to Physiotherapy Directorate services when needed. Coordinate referrals and management plans with GPs, Orthopaedics, Rheumatology, Vascular and other specialist services, contributing to the prevention of high-risk foot ulceration and amputation through expert assessment, decision-making and care planning
