Behaviour Mentor – Permanent (SEND Specialist Setting)

We are working in partnership with a specialist secondary SEND education provider to recruit a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Mentor for a full-time, permanent position based in Crawley.
This is a highly rewarding opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting secondary‑aged pupils with Special Educational Needs, including ASD and associated behavioural and emotional needs. The role is ideal for someone who thrives on building positive relationships and supporting young people through a key stage of personal, social and academic development.
The Role
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to support pupils 1:1 and in small group settings, helping them to manage behaviour, regulate emotions and engage positively with learning.
The setting offers a structured, nurturing and inclusive environment, delivering a holistic curriculum that balances academic progress with personal, social and health development. You will play a vital role in removing barriers to learning and supporting pupils to develop confidence, resilience and independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide targeted 1:1 and small group mentoring to support behaviour, wellbeing and engagement
- Support secondary‑aged pupils who may be struggling to access learning or follow a full timetable
- Assist in the development and implementation of individual behaviour support and intervention plans
- Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation and self‑esteem
- Support pupils’ personal, social and emotional development
- Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour and attendance
- Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, parents/carers and external professionals
- Contribute to a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment
- Uphold safeguarding, equality and inclusive practice at all times
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Is calm, resilient and compassionate, with an understanding of adolescent behaviour
- Is passionate about working with children and young people with SEND
- Has experience supporting pupils with behavioural or additional needs
- Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Can build positive, professional relationships with pupils and colleagues
- Works effectively as part of a team while showing initiative
- Is committed to safeguarding and inclusive practice
- Is willing to undertake ongoing training, including positive handling where required
Hours
- Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 8:30am – 4:00pm
- Tuesday: 8:30am – 5:00pm
- 38.5 hours per week
- Full-time, term-time only (38 weeks per year)
- This schedule provides 14 weeks of school holidays each year
