Pay & Annual Leave
£13.52 per hour. Annual pay will be calculated based on contracted term-time hours and statutory holiday entitlement, then paid in 12 equal monthly installments.

Job Purpose
The Educator helps create a safe, engaging and well-organised environment where young people can build confidence, independence and new skills.
You will lead activities, build positive professional relationships, actively supervise groups and contribute fully to the day-to-day running of Rama Life.
This is a practical, hands-on role requiring initiative, good judgement, clear communication and a willingness to help wherever needed.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leading Activities and Learning
- Plan and deliver engaging, purposeful and age-appropriate activities, including Life Skills, indoors and outdoors.
- Lead groups confidently, giving clear instructions and maintaining awareness of the whole group.
- Adapt activities to suit different ages, abilities, interests and communication needs.
- Prepare resources, organise sessions effectively and maintain an appropriate pace.
- Support colleagues proactively and encourage participation while respecting individual needs and boundaries.
2. Supporting Young People
- Build warm, professional relationships that help young people feel safe, understood and valued.
- Support young people to develop confidence, independence, resilience and positive relationships.
- Respond calmly and consistently when a young person is anxious, starting to dysregulate or finding something difficult.
- Adapt communication to individual needs and maintain clear professional boundaries.
- Address emerging issues promptly and seek additional support when appropriate.
3. Safeguarding and Active Supervision
- Maintain active awareness of young people, the environment and what is happening throughout each session.
- Identify risks and take proportionate action to prevent accidents or incidents.
- Respond promptly to unsafe, unkind or inappropriate behaviour.
- Follow safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times.
- Report and record concerns accurately, factually and without delay.
- Share safeguarding information with the Designated Safeguarding Lead or Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead as required.
- Challenge or report any practice that may place someone at risk.
4. Teamwork, Initiative and Accountability
- Work collaboratively and communicate clearly and respectfully with young people, colleagues and families.
- Follow agreed plans, routines and decisions, raising concerns through the appropriate channels.
- Notice what needs doing and take appropriate action without repeated reminders.
- Prioritise effectively and work at a pace that keeps the day running smoothly.
- Respond positively to feedback and apply learning in practice.
- Take responsibility for mistakes and contribute to putting them right.
- Maintain expected standards without close supervision.
5. Practical and Professional Responsibilities
- Set up and reset rooms, activities, furniture and equipment safely.
- Keep the environment clean, organised, secure and welcoming.
- Check equipment and report hazards, damage or maintenance concerns promptly.
- Complete plans, records and other required administration accurately and on time.
- Follow Rama Life policies, risk assessments and legal requirements.
- Attend meetings, supervision and training and take responsibility for professional development.
- Undertake first-aid training where required and only administer first aid or medication when trained and authorised.
- Act as a reliable and professional role model.
Person SpecificationEssential
- Experience of working directly with young people.
- Experience of leading groups and planning activities.
- Experience of supporting neurodivergent young people or those with additional needs.
- Strong communication, safeguarding awareness and professional judgement.
- Ability to supervise actively, identify risks and adapt support to individual needs.
- Good organisation, time management and basic administrative skills.
- Warm, calm, practical and reliable.
- Able to use initiative, accept feedback and maintain clear boundaries.
- Committed to safeguarding and Rama Life’s values.
Desirable
- Level 3 or higher qualification in youth work, education, childcare, SEND, outdoor learning or a related area.
- Current first-aid and safeguarding training.
- Experience in home education, alternative provision, youth work or small-group settings.
- Experience communicating with parents or carers.
- Specialist skills such as art, sport, science, cooking, outdoor learning, construction, drama or life skills.
General Requirements
