About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our friendly multidisciplinary team within our GP practice at Willow Tree Surgery in Peterborough.
Hours : 18 hours per week
Pay : £15.04 per hour
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated HCA who is passionate about delivering safe, high-quality and patient-centred care and who wants to play an important role in supporting the health and wellbeing of our patients.
Working alongside our GPs, nurses and wider practice team, you will provide a range of clinical and treatment-room services, while contributing to the continued development and effectiveness of our practice.
Key Responsibilities
As a Healthcare Assistant, your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Carrying out new patient health checks and long-term condition reviews/work-ups.
- Undertaking phlebotomy and blood collection, including for patients attending warfarin clinics.
- Performing and recording ECGs.
- Providing wound care and simple dressings.
- Supporting B12 and flu vaccination clinics.
- Processing and managing clinical laboratory samples in accordance with practice procedures.
- Maintaining vaccine and cold-chain storage, monitoring and recording requirements.
- Supporting the assessment and monitoring of patients' health and wellbeing within your scope of competence.
- Maintaining accurate clinical records and completing relevant templates and coding on practice IT systems, including SystmOne.
- Ensuring consulting and treatment rooms are clean, appropriately stocked and ready for use.
- Following infection prevention and control, safeguarding, confidentiality, consent and health and safety procedures.
- Recognising and appropriately escalating changes in a patient's condition.
- Contributing to practice meetings, training, CPD and wider service development.
- Undertaking other reasonable duties in support of the practice and its patients.
About You
We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Healthcare Assistant who has:
Essential:
- At least 2 years' experience working as a HCA/HCSW within primary care.
- A Care Certificate or equivalent qualification.
- Experience in core clinical skills including phlebotomy, wound care and chronic disease management.
- Experience of participating in incident, complaint or investigation processes.
- A good understanding of adult and children's safeguarding, including Level 3 requirements.
- A strong understanding of patient-centred care, confidentiality, dignity, consent and choice.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team while also working independently within your scope of competence.
Desirable:
- Previous experience using SystmOne.
- Experience within a GP practice or other primary care setting.
- Experience contributing to audit, governance and service improvement.
