Cook / Chef – Homeleigh Truro Restaurant
Location: Homeleigh Garden Centre, Truro
Reports to: Restaurant Manager
Employment Type: Part-time ideally 4 days with flexibility for 5.
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Days / Hours: 8am - 4pm, will include work on weekends.
Homeleigh Garden Centres is a growing, family-run business with multiple sites across Devon and Cornwall. Our restaurants are an important part of the Homeleigh experience, providing customers with good quality, freshly prepared food in a welcoming and relaxed environment.
Our Truro restaurant has recently undergone a significant facelift, creating a modern and attractive environment for our customers. We are also planning further investment in the restaurant, including improvements to the kitchen and other operational areas.

The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Cook / Chef to join our kitchen team at Homeleigh Truro.
You will be responsible for preparing and cooking a range of dishes to a consistently high standard, while maintaining excellent levels of food hygiene, cleanliness and organisation.
The role would suit an experienced cook or chef who enjoys working in a busy environment, takes pride in the food they produce and understands the importance of delivering good food and good service consistently.
We are looking for someone who can work well as part of a team but is also confident working independently and taking responsibility for their section when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, cook and present food to a consistently high standard.
- Follow recipes, portion controls and presentation standards.
- Ensure food is prepared efficiently and ready for service when required.
- Maintain high standards of food quality, freshness and presentation.
- Work effectively during busy periods and manage multiple orders.
- Assist with preparation for daily service, including breakfast, lunch and other menu requirements.
- Ensure all food is stored correctly and safely.
- Monitor stock levels and communicate any shortages or requirements to the relevant manager.
- Minimise food waste through good preparation and stock rotation.
- Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness and organisation throughout the kitchen.
- Follow all food hygiene, health and safety procedures.
- Complete relevant cleaning and closing-down duties.
- Work closely with colleagues across the kitchen and restaurant to ensure smooth service.
- Support the wider kitchen team when required.
- Assist with menu changes, new dishes and improvements to the food offering as the restaurant develops.
- Take pride in contributing to the ongoing improvement of the Truro restaurant.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
- Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen, restaurant, café or similar food environment.
- Good understanding of food hygiene and safe food handling.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
- Good communication skills.
- A strong work ethic and reliable approach to attendance.
