Senior Ductwork Sheet Metal Worker / Workshop Lead
Location: Bury, Greater Manchester
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: £20.00–£22.00 per hour, depending on experience
Overtime: Available
We are looking for an experienced Ductwork Sheet Metal Worker to join our fabrication workshop in Bury, Greater Manchester.
This is not simply a vacancy for another pair of hands.
We are looking for an experienced ductwork fabricator who can initially work hands-on within the workshop, but who has the ability and ambition to progress into taking responsibility for the day-to-day running of our ductwork manufacturing operation.
For the right person, this represents an opportunity to take ownership of an important and growing part of the business.
The Role
The position will initially involve the hands-on manufacture of sheet metal ductwork and associated products, working from drawings and specifications to a high standard.
As you become established within the business, we would expect you to take increasing responsibility for planning and organising ductwork production through the workshop.
Responsibilities will include:
- Manufacture of rectangular ductwork and associated fittings to DW/144
- Setting out and fabrication of sheet metal ductwork
- Reading and interpreting fabrication drawings and specifications
- Operating guillotines, folders, lockformers and other sheet metal machinery
- Ensuring ductwork is manufactured accurately, efficiently and to a high standard
- Organising and prioritising ductwork production
- Monitoring material requirements and identifying shortages
- Coordinating workloads to meet project and delivery programmes
- Maintaining high standards of quality, housekeeping and health & safety
- Working closely with management on upcoming projects and production requirements
- Helping us develop and improve the ductwork manufacturing side of the business
What We're Looking For
This role requires someone with strong previous experience in ductwork fabrication.
You should be capable of working independently and be confident taking a ductwork job from drawing through to completed manufacture.
The successful candidate should have:
- Significant experience as a ductwork sheet metal worker
- Good working knowledge of DW/144
- Strong sheet metal fabrication skills
- The ability to read and understand drawings
- Experience using standard ductwork fabrication machinery
- Good practical and problem-solving ability
- High standards of workmanship
- A reliable and professional approach
- The confidence to organise workloads and take responsibility
Previous experience as a chargehand, supervisor or workshop foreman would be an advantage, but is not essential.
We are equally interested in speaking to an experienced ductwork fabricator who feels ready to take the next step in their career.
Pay & Progression
£20.00–£22.00 per hour, depending on experience and ability.
Overtime opportunities are available.
Importantly, there is further salary progression available as responsibility for the ductwork operation increases.
Our intention is for the successful candidate to develop into a position where they can take ownership of the day-to-day ductwork manufacturing operation, with their package reflecting that increased responsibility.
The Opportunity
We are looking for someone who wants more than simply another fabrication job.
You'll be joining an established engineering and fabrication workshop with the opportunity to play a major part in developing our ductwork manufacturing capability.
If you're an experienced ductwork sheet metal worker who takes pride in their work and would like the opportunity to eventually run the ductwork side of a busy fabrication workshop, we'd like to hear from you.
