Part-Time Farm & Property Maintenance Person
Ideal for: Experienced, practical person, including someone retired or semi-retired
About the Property
We are looking for a reliable, capable and practical person to help look after our 7-acre farm, which includes a six-bedroom house, gardens, grounds and a number of outbuildings.
This is a varied and hands-on role, ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in keeping a property looking its best, and is comfortable turning their hand to a wide range of maintenance jobs.
My wife looks after our animals, including pigs, goats and alpacas, while this role will primarily focus on the grounds, buildings, house and general property maintenance.
The Role
We are looking for someone who can work independently and use their initiative to keep the property well maintained, tidy and in good working order.
The work will vary from week to week and could include:
- General gardening, grass cutting, strimming, hedge cutting and pruning
- Maintaining lawns, flower beds, paths and general grounds
- General upkeep and maintenance of the house, both inside and outside
- Painting, decorating and minor repairs
- Basic electrical and plumbing maintenance where appropriately qualified
- Maintaining and repairing garden and farm machinery
- Servicing, cleaning and looking after tools and equipment
- Maintaining fences, gates, sheds and outbuildings
- General DIY and carpentry
- Clearing leaves, branches and other garden waste
- Keeping outdoor areas, driveways and paths clean and tidy
- Identifying maintenance issues and dealing with them before they become larger problems
- Helping with occasional larger maintenance or improvement projects
- Liaising with tradespeople when specialist work is required
There may also be occasional additional jobs around the property depending on the season and what needs doing.
About You
We are looking for someone who is practical, trustworthy, conscientious and capable of working on their own initiative.
You will ideally:
- Have good practical and DIY skills
- Be an experienced gardener and comfortable working outdoors in all weathers
- Be confident using and maintaining garden and farm machinery
- Have experience with decorating, carpentry and general property maintenance
- Have a good understanding of basic electrics and plumbing, with appropriate qualifications where required
- Be able to identify problems and work out sensible solutions
- Take pride in doing a job properly rather than simply getting it done
- Be reliable, organised and able to work independently
- Be comfortable working around a working farm and animals
- Have a friendly and approachable manner
We would particularly welcome applications from someone who is retired or semi-retired and is looking for a few days of enjoyable, varied work each week. The role could suit someone who has spent their career in a practical trade, property maintenance, gardening, farming, engineering or a similar field.
What We Offer
- 1–3 days per week, with flexibility around the days worked
- A varied role with plenty of independence
- A peaceful and pleasant rural working environment
- The opportunity to work outdoors and on a beautiful private property
- Flexible hours to suit the right person
- A friendly and informal working environment
- Pay commensurate with experience and practical skills
Pay: £150.00-£200.00 per day
Work Location: In person
