About the Role
BAMD Composites is seeking a diligent and motivated Quality Inspector to join the Quality & Inspection Department and support the delivery of consistently high-quality composite products across all manufacturing operations.
The Quality Inspector will be responsible for carrying out incoming, in-process and final inspection activities, ensuring that products and components conform to engineering drawings, specifications, customer requirements and BAMD's quality standards.Working closely with the Quality Manager, Production and Engineering teams, the role will help identify quality issues at source, ensure accurate inspection records are maintained and contribute to a culture of right-first-time manufacturing and continuous improvement.This is a hands-on inspection role and is an important position within the business, providing the objective evidence and feedback required to maintain product quality and support BAMD's continued growth.
Key Responsibilities
Quality & Inspection
- Carry out incoming, in-process and final inspection of components and assemblies.
- Inspect products against engineering drawings, specifications, customer requirements and approved manufacturing documentation.
- Identify, record and communicate defects, deviations and quality concerns.
- Ensure inspection activities are completed accurately and in accordance with defined procedures and inspection plans.
- Complete inspection records and ensure quality documentation is accurate, complete and traceable.
- Support the Quality Manager in maintaining effective quality and inspection processes.
- Maintain a clean, organised and controlled inspection area.
- Follow all company quality, health & safety and environmental procedures.
Product Inspection & Measurement
- Perform dimensional inspection using appropriate measuring equipment and inspection techniques.
- Use tools such as verniers, micrometers, height gauges, gauges and other inspection equipment as required.
- Support more advanced dimensional inspection activities where trained and competent.
- Verify component characteristics against drawings, specifications and defined acceptance criteria.
- Assist with First Article Inspection (FAI/FAIR) activities and preparation of inspection evidence.
- Ensure inspection equipment is suitable, in good condition and within calibration.
- Report any issues with inspection equipment to the Quality Manager.
Non-Conformance
- Identify and report non-conforming products or processes.
- Raise non-conformance records in accordance with company procedures.
- Clearly document defects, measurements and relevant supporting information.
- Segregate and identify non-conforming material where required.
- Support investigations into non-conformances and quality issues.
- Provide accurate inspection information to assist the Quality Manager with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Verify completed rework or corrective actions where requested.
- Help prevent recurrence of defects by identifying trends and highlighting recurring issues.
MRP & Quality Records
- Ensure all inspection and quality activities are accurately recorded in the Company's MRP system, Progress Plus.
- Maintain accurate and timely inspection records.
- Ensure traceability of inspection results to the relevant job, batch, component or customer requirement.
- Record non-conformances and inspection results accurately and promptly.
- Support the Quality Manager with the collection of quality data and KPI information.
Production & Engineering Support
- Work closely with Production and Engineering to identify and resolve quality issues.
- Provide timely feedback to operators and supervisors where products do not meet requirements.
- Support first-off, in-process and final inspection activities.
- Assist with the introduction of new products and processes by supporting inspection requirements.
- Help identify opportunities to improve inspection methods and prevent defects.
- Constructively challenge processes or products where quality requirements are not being met.
Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to BAMD's objective of improving Right First Time (RFT) performance and reducing scrap.
- Identify recurring defects and communicate trends to the Quality Manager.
- Suggest practical improvements to inspection and manufacturing processes.
- Participate in quality improvement activities and problem-solving exercises.
- Promote a positive attitude towards quality throughout the manufacturing environment.
Training & Development
- Complete all required training and maintain competency in relevant inspection techniques.
- Develop knowledge of engineering drawings, specifications, composite manufacturing processes and quality standards.
- Work towards additional inspection and quality qualifications where appropriate.
- Support other members of the Quality & Inspection team when required.

Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in a quality inspection or manufacturing inspection role.
- Experience working within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Ability to accurately interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Good understanding of dimensional measurement and inspection techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to accurately record and maintain quality information.
- Basic computer literacy and willingness to learn and use MRP/quality systems.
- Ability to work effectively with Production, Engineering and Quality teams.
- A positive and proactive approach to identifying quality issues.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience within composites manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, motorsport, defence or advanced engineering sectors.
- Knowledge of composite materials and manufacturing processes, including lamination, trimming, bonding and assembly.
- Experience using a range of dimensional inspection equipment.
- Experience with First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs).
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems.
- Experience using an MRP, ERP or quality management system.
- Formal inspection or quality qualification.
- Experience with CMM or other advanced measurement systems.
- Understanding of PPAP, APQP or similar quality processes.

Role Development
The Quality Inspector is a key operational role within the Quality & Inspection Department and reports directly to the Quality Manager.The role is expected to develop increasing technical competence and independence in inspection activities over time.
