About Us
We are Next Chapter, a domestic abuse charity that provides free and confidential services to support people who are currently experiencing, or have previously experienced, domestic abuse. We work across Tendring, Colchester, Maldon, Chelmsford, Braintree and Uttlesford.
Our mission is to provide rapid responses that increase safety for all victims, enabling them to rebuild their lives and create lasting change.
We are looking for a Family Domestic Abuse Practitioner or Young Persons Violence Advisor to join us on a three year fixed term contract.
The Role
As a Family DAP/YPVA you will be responsible for providing high quality specialist front-line trauma informed domestic abuse support to families , working with colleagues to keep them safe and to rebuild their lives as well as supporting rebuilding family bonds and increasing the resilience of families as a whole.
Specifically, you will:
Work as part of the CYP team to manage referrals, undertaking an initial needs and risk assessment with the client within the specified timescales initiating plans to manage and address risks, needs and immediate safety, focussing primarily on the needs and safety of the children and young people in the family.
Provide a needs-led, trauma-informed approach to provide support to clients and/or their children, delivering an individually tailored structured support plan. Ensure the support plans are regularly reviewed to ensure it reflects their current situation and priorities.
Ensure the family has in place, and continuously review with them, robust safety support plans to support them living safely within their current community.
Support children and young people through 1:1 work, family work and facilitating group programmes
About You
We’re looking for highly organised and self-motivated applicants who are passionate about supporting victims of domestic abuse.
Ideally you will have experience of working with children, young people, parents or whole families who have experienced domestic abuse and its impacts, you will have strong coordination skills and good knowledge of trauma-informed care. You will have a knowledge of safeguarding procedures and relevant legislation.
You will also have excellent communication and advocacy skills. A friendly, flexible ‘can do’ attitude is essential for this role.
You will have experience and understanding around the importance of creating safe spaces for clients to emotionally heal from their trauma and you will thrive in holding that space for them and leading by example by demonstrating a strong commitment to your own empowerment journey.
We require you to have a valid driver’s licence and access to a motor vehicle is essential.
