About the service
Coventry, Warwickshire and Worcestershire Mind is looking for a full-time Housing Support Worker to work within our Housing Support Service.
We manage a wide range of properties, which are located in various parts of Coventry and consist of single flats/bedsits and a number of shared houses for 2–8 people. The Housing Support Service matches a person to an appropriate property, and then provides practical and emotional support to enable the person to maintain and sustain their tenancy.
About the role
The post holder will provide support services to residents living in Coventry and Warwickshire Mind’s accommodation-based services.
The purpose of the Support Worker role is to provide person-centred practical and emotional support to residents within supported accommodation services across Coventry and Warwickshire.
The role focuses on promoting empowerment, recovery, equality and independence by helping clients develop the skills needed to maintain their tenancy and improve their wellbeing
Key responsibilities
- Support clients throughout the move-in process, including preparing accommodation, organising moves and completing all relevant paperwork.
- Ensure clients understand and adhere to the terms of their licence or tenancy agreements, including providing inductions, client handbooks and health and safety guidance.
- Support clients with budgeting, rent, service charges, benefits and financial management, working alongside benefits advice team and relevant agencies to maximise income and sustain tenancies.
- Provide person-centred practical and emotional support to clients, promoting recovery, independence, resilience and wellbeing.
- Maintain regular contact with clients through planned support sessions, face-to-face meetings, telephone support and welfare checks.
- Support clients with daily living skills, including cooking, shopping, personal hygiene, housekeeping and maintaining accommodation
- Respond appropriately to crises, safeguarding concerns and emergencies, ensuring concerns are escalated and managed in line with organisational procedures.
- Plan and facilitate meaningful activities that promote client wellbeing, recovery, independence and social inclusion.
- Liaise and work collaboratively with mental health professionals, healthcare providers, external agencies and community partners to achieve positive outcomes for clients.
Essential requirements
- Mental health support experience is desirable.
- Experience in dealing with individuals with challenging behaviours.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Able to use a computer and/or other electronic device.
- Ability and experience of working with a wide range of people.
- Ability to problem solve.
- Strong commitment to empowering residents.
- An ability to travel to venues across Coventry.
- Commitment to valuing fair access & diversity
- Commitment to tenant’s involvement.
- A UK driving license with valid business insurance.
