Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Manual Lathe Turner to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating manual lathes to produce precision components, primarily working with plastics and metal materials. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical processes, tooling, and safety protocols, with an emphasis on quality and efficiency. Duties
- Operate manual lathes to produce precise components according to technical drawings and specifications.
- Set up and adjust machines, including selecting appropriate tooling and measuring tools.
- Perform grinding, milling, and other machining operations as required to achieve desired tolerances.
- Use CAD software such as SolidWorks and other design tools to interpret technical drawings and modify designs when necessary.
- Conduct welding and assembly tasks to complete finished products or subassemblies.
- Utilise hand tools, power tools, and specialised tooling safely and effectively during production processes.
- Apply basic maths skills for measurements, calculations, and quality control checks.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area, adhering to safety standards at all times.
- Assist with plastics injection moulding processes when required.
- Troubleshoot machine issues and perform routine maintenance to ensure optimal operation.
Experience
- Proven experience operating manual lathes in a manufacturing or workshop environment.
- Familiarity with grinding, milling, welding, and assembly processes is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of CAD software such as SolidWorks or similar programmes is preferred.
- Mechanical knowledge related to tooling, machine setup, and maintenance is essential.
- Experience working with plastics injection moulding or similar materials is advantageous.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and perform precise measurements using hand tools and micrometers.
- Basic understanding of safety protocols in a machining environment is required.
- Prior experience using power tools and hand tools in a manufacturing setting will be beneficial.
