Role Overview
An exciting opportunity to join the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, the exclusive ferry operator to the Isle of Man.
We are seeking Seasonal Passenger Service Assistants to join our friendly team based at the Liverpool terminal. In this role, no two days are the same—you will create a positive first impression by welcoming passengers at the start and end of their journey, providing assistance tailored to passenger needs, and ensuring a smooth experience for all.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide outstanding service to customers and visitors, making sure they are well-informed and assisted
- Use computer systems to check-in passengers and their luggage, edit bookings and take payments using the company system.
- Liaise with the Company Vessel to accurately park and load vehicle traffic in order including checking vehicle dimensions match to paperwork
- Confidently use radio and telephone systems to liaise with colleagues and contact other company ports and passengers
- Complete necessary paperwork including freight documents and understand dangerous goods
- Ensure the port facility is secure and compliant with DfT regulations. Fulfilling security duties, when necessary (required as part of the role)
- Serve in Departure Lounge café when required, loading foot passengers whilst considering their individual requirements. Maintain café stock, complete stock orders, cash till up accurately.
- Undertake cleaning and basic maintenance tasks across the facility
- Drive company vehicles when required
This role requires working both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, ensuring operational standards are consistently maintained.
Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with passengers and colleagues
- Demonstrated ability to think intuitively and work effectively as part of a team, not only assist to passengers but colleagues too
- We process a large volume of foot passengers and vehicles throughout the summer season. A proven ability to perform in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment is important as operational demands will vary daily
- Flexible, reliable, and professional approach to work
- A willingness to learn and a can-do attitude
Desirable:
- Previous experience within a tourism or hospitality environment.
- Full UK driving licence
Working Hours and Shifts
- 16 hours+ per week
- Shift pattern operates on a 4 days on / 2 days off rota
- 12-hour day shifts
- Working split shifts, weekends, and bank holidays also form part of the role
- Additional hours may be available subject to operational requirements
Training
Full training is provided for this role.
Candidates must successfully complete and pass the mandatory ISPS Code examination in order to continue the training period. Training is fully paid over a two-week period.
Full uniform will be provided after a successful training period.
Successful candidates must be able to complete a 10-year background check and provide satisfactory employment references.
