Are you someone who likes to stay active, work outdoors and be part of a close-knit team?
We're looking for reliable, hardworking Waste Collection Operatives to join our new Food Waste Collection Service. This is more than just a job; it's an essential frontline service with real responsibility and a real impact. Our crews support over 225,000 households across the Bradford district, helping residents recycle more and reduce food waste.
If you want stable employment, a great team spirit and a role where your work truly matters, we'd love to hear from you.
This role is based on a 37-hour working week, working:
Tuesday to Friday
7:00 am to 4:45 pm
Enjoy the benefits of a permanent 4-day working week, providing a better work-life balance while still delivering an essential service to local communities.
As part of a professional food waste collection crew, you will:
-
Collect food waste from households across the Bradford district.
-
Work closely with your driver and fellow crew members to complete daily collection routes safely and efficiently.
-
Load and empty food waste containers into collection vehicles.
-
Assist with identifying and reporting contaminated containers in line with service procedures.
-
Follow safe systems of work and help maintain high standards of health and safety.
-
Help ensure vehicles and equipment are clean, safe and well maintained.
-
Deliver a courteous and professional service to residents and members of the public.
-
Support other waste collection services when operationally required.
This is an active and physically demanding role. You'll be on your feet throughout the day, walking, lifting and handling containers while working outdoors in all weather conditions. At the end of each shift, you'll know you've contributed to an important environmental service that helps keep Bradford clean and supports a more sustainable future.
We're not just looking for experience; we're looking for the right attitude.
The ideal candidate will be:
-
Physically fit and comfortable working all year round outdoors.
-
Motivated, reliable and team-focused with a strong work ethic.
-
Safety-conscious and committed to following procedures at all times.
-
Able to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
-
Professional and respectful when dealing with residents and members of the public.
-
Flexible and willing to support different collection services when required.
Experience in waste collection, grounds maintenance, highways, street cleansing, logistics or other outdoor operational roles would be beneficial, but is not essential, as full training will be provided.
If you're interested in the role but aren't sure whether you meet all of the requirements, we encourage you to apply. We value potential, attitude and commitment just as much as experience.
