Whiteghyll is seeking an experienced and hands-on Flat Bed CNC / Machine Shop Manager to oversee daily operations within our manufacturing facility in Bradford. Whiteghyll is a manufacturer of bespoke display items for retail, brands and exhibitions
Job Purpose
The Hands-On Flatbed Cnc/Machine Manager directly oversees and actively works on the shop floor to manage the programming, setup, operation, and maintenance of flatbed CNC routing machinery. This role demands a working manager who splits time between high-level production scheduling and physical machine operation, material loading, and tool changes to ensure zero downtime and maximum output.
Key Responsibilities
· Active Operations: Spend approximately 50 - 60% of the shift physically setting up machines, loading sheets, changing tooling, and operating the flatbed CNC beds.
· CAD/CAM Programming: Personally program, toolpath, and nest incoming drawing files (DXF, DWG) using CAM software (e.g., V,Carve and AVS for optimal material yield.
· Production Leadership: Create daily schedules for the CNC department, managing workflow to meet tight client turnaround times.
· Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Perform immediate mechanical and software fault-finding on the shop floor. Conduct routine maintenance on machines and arrange servicing where required.
· Quality Inspection: Conduct first-off and final inspections using verniers and tape measures, maintaining a strict hands-on approach to quality control.
· Team Supervision: Lead, mentor, and work alongside a small team of CNC operators ,working days and nights setting the standard for pace, efficiency, and accuracy.
· HSE Compliance: Enforce and personally practice strict workplace safety, including correct PUWER compliance, dust extraction management, and safe material handling.
Key Requirements
· Experience: Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience setting and operating industrial flatbed CNC routers, AXYZ & twin head, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
· Technical Skills: Complete fluency in CAD/CAM software and direct experience with matrix vacuum bed operations and automatic tool changers.
· Physical Capability: Willing and able to handle heavy sheet materials (wood, plastics, composites) and remain active on the shop floor for the duration of the shift.
· Right to Work: Valid UK work authorization.
· Work additional hours as and when required
Desirable Attributes
· Ability to work unsupervised
· Forklift truck (FLT) license for efficient material loading.an advantage
· Experience manufacturing bespoke joinery, instore displays, signage etc.
