We are seeking an experienced Accounts Assistant to join our well-established UK accountancy practice based in Denby Dale, Huddersfield. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with recent UK accountancy practice experience who enjoys working with a varied portfolio of clients.
The successful candidate will manage a range of bookkeeping and accounting duties, including VAT returns, payroll and accounts preparation, while working closely with clients and our experienced accounts team.
A minimum of two years' recent UK accountancy practice experience is essential. Experience preparing year-end accounts to review stage is highly desirable.
Responsibilities for Accounts Assistant;
- Managing bookkeeping for a portfolio of sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
- Processing day-to-day bookkeeping, including bank, credit card and control account reconciliations.
- Maintaining accurate purchase and sales ledger records.
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns.
- Processing payroll, RTI submissions and workplace pension administration.
- Preparing CIS returns and subcontractor administration.
- Assisting with the preparation of year-end accounts to review stage.
- Assisting with management accounts where required.
- Liaising directly with clients to resolve bookkeeping, payroll and VAT queries.
- Maintaining accurate client records using accounting software including Sage 50, Sage Business Cloud, Xero, QuickBooks and FreeAgent.
- Supporting the wider accounts team as required.
Experience
- Minimum two years' recent experience working within a UK accountancy practice (essential).
- Experience preparing bookkeeping for multiple clients.
- Experience preparing and submitting VAT returns.
- Experience assisting with year-end accounts preparation to review stage.
- Payroll experience, including RTI submissions.
- CIS experience would be advantageous.
- Good working knowledge of Sage 50, Sage Business Cloud, Xero, QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
- Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and double-entry accounting.
- Excellent organisational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
- Friendly, professional manner with excellent communication and client service skills.
