We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly skilled Studio Coordinator to join our Materials Lab team, with a focus on woodwork. Working at the heart of a dynamic creative university, you will help ensure our wood workshop is a safe, energising and well resourced environment where students can experiment, explore, and excel.
Youll collaborate closely with academic colleagues and technical team members to support an exciting timetable of practical activity. From day-to-day studio coordination to contributing to University wide workshops and enrichment sessions, you will play a key role in enabling students to turn ideas into artefacts and creative potential into real, hands-on practice.

Please note: The University is also advertising a 0.4 FTE Studio Coordinator role within the Metals Studio. Candidates with transferable skills and experience across both wood and metals may wish to consider applying for both roles. For a suitably skilled candidate, there may be scope for the two roles to be undertaken cohesively across both workshop areas.
About You:
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience teaching, demonstrating, or supporting learning in a creative studio environment, and will be an organised, proactive, and skilled woodwork practitioner.
Strong knowledge of woodwork processes, including wood fabrication, plywood forming, bench joinery, wood turning, green woodworking and CNC routing.
Enthusiasm for sharing technical expertise and supporting learners development.
Confidence working with a diverse range of students, delivering inductions, and guiding safe and effective working practices.
A solid understanding of Health & Safety requirements within a workshop environment.
Good knowledge of wood-based materials, sustainable practice and contemporary approaches to woodwork and material practice.
Strong planning, communication, and resource-management skills to ensure smooth studio operations.
A positive, flexible attitude, with strong IT competence.
About The Role:
The role will involve:
Overseeing the day-to-day running of the Woodwork Studio within the Materials Lab, ensuring it remains a safe, well-maintained and creatively engaging environment.
Coordinating timetabled activity, delivering inductions and demonstrations across a range of woodwork processes, and supporting students during open-access sessions.
Ensuring the studio is appropriately resourced, including equipment, tools, consumables and technical support.
Working closely with the Technical Resource Manager and academic teams to plan and deliver curriculum-aligned activities.
Contributing to University-wide technical workshops and enrichment activities.
Monitoring budgets, supporting exhibitions and recruitment events, and contributing to ongoing improvements across the wider technical resource provision.
Maintaining workshop equipment and tools, arranging routine repairs and planned preventative maintenance where required.
Acting in a hands-on, student-facing capacity that combines technical practice, studio oversight and collaborative curriculum support to maintain a vibrant and safe learning environment for wood-based making.
