General Manager – The Powder Monkey Taphouse, Gosport
We are looking for an experienced General Manager to lead The Powder Monkey Taphouse in Gosport. This is a full-time position offering a salary of up to £36k depending on experience, working five days out of seven and including weekends, bank holidays and evenings. This is an exciting opportunity for a confident hospitality professional to take charge of a busy bar and live music venue in a distinctive waterfront setting.

The Powder Monkey Taphouse is a distinctive waterside venue in the heart of Gosport, set within a historic gunpowder store at Priddy’s Hard. With indoor and outdoor seating, sea views, and a strong connection to the Powder Monkey Brewery just over the road, the venue has built a reputation for craft beer, quality hospitality and a lively atmosphere that includes regular live music and events.
Key Responsibilities
· Oversee the day-to-day running of the tap room, ensuring excellent customer service and smooth operations.
· Lead, motivate, and manage the bar team to deliver high standards in a busy trading environment.
· Manage stock control, ordering, rotas, cash handling, and general venue administration.
· Ensure the venue operates in line with all licensing, health and safety, and legal compliance requirements.
· Support and oversee live music and events, helping to create a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.
· Drive sales, maintain quality standards, and help grow the venue’s reputation locally.
What We’re Looking For
· At least five years of management experience in a busy hospitality environment.
· Previous relevant experience managing a busy bar and live music venue.
· A confident and capable leader with strong people management skills.
· A solid understanding of licensing laws and venue compliance.
· You must hold a valid premises licence.
· Strong organisational skills, commercial awareness, and a hands-on approach.
Job Description

The successful candidate will be expected to take a hands-on approach, lead by example, and support the continued success of a busy bar and live music venue.
Job Specification
· You must have at least five years of management experience, ideally within a busy bar, hospitality, or live music venue environment.
· Previous experience managing a busy bar and live music venue is essential.
· You must hold a valid premises licence.
· Strong leadership, communication and team management skills are essential.
· A good understanding of licensing, compliance and health and safety requirements is required.
· A hands-on, organised, and commercially aware approach is important for success in this role.
· Proof of right to work in the UK.
Pay: £34,000.00-£36,000.00 per year
